Well i will have my new bike pretty soon. I will be getting an 1125r. its an 08 model and has some work to be done to it. but i have the following questions.

1. is the fairing stay made of aluminum of magnesium?

2. The bike is without warranty. should i take it to a local shop and have them look the Bike over for potential problems?

3. how the hell do you guys keep the front wheel on the ground?

4. can the stock muffler be modified to sound good?

5. How can i tell if the latest flash is in the bike.

i thinks that is it for now. i am totally stoked to be getting this bike. its been a year and half of lusting after one and now all of wait is over. well in about 1 or so weeks.

1. Magnesium, I believe.

2. Perhaps, but searching for common problems with the 08 here and asking the previous owner about them might be as good a plan. Basically, try to understand what the common issues are and see if they have already been addressed on this bike.

Also, I suspect the bike does have some warranty left. The standard Buell warranty is 2 years, and the earliest 1125r deliveries were in October 08, I believe.

3. Lean forward under heavy acceleration.

4. Yes and no. There are some aftermarket exhaust options, but to really work well most require fuel remapping and you are going to find that an expensive proposition in the form of software for the re-map and dyno time to do it right.

It's also my personal opinion that the 1125r is noisy enough and does sound good. Leave it alone and just ride it would be my advice.

5. Take it to a dealer.

I would describe the '08 model as suffering from "a list of annoying small issues". There's quite a few little problems likely to come up with the bike, but few show stoppers. Most of the known problems have good resolutions at this point, and you will be fine if you stay on top of it.

Just keep that in mind.

I own two of the '08 models, and I still think it's a great bike that's a lot of fun.

The first 1125R was delivered early December IIRC.
The first one rolled off the line Oct 30, 2007.

My Loretta is #154 and came off the line Nov 6 or 7 and came off the delivery truck Dec 14th.
First privately owned 1125R to hit the road in Colorado.

1. Magnesium
2. Only if you have a Buell friendly dealer you are on good terms with.
3. Self-control and the fear of having it land in your lap while your butt disappears into the pavement.
4. Good? meh. Better - yes.
5. Take it to the dealer and have them hook up to a DT-III.

Congrats!

Zack

I removed the two stock tips and cut the small pipes inside the muffler back about an inch. The turn down is a 2.5 inch welded in. Sounds much better and does not get the rear rim all black with soot anymore. This is a vid I did when my bike was on the dyno. Sorry the video and audio is so bad.
