Get your minds out of the gutter....

Anyway, over the last month or so, I thought there was something wrong with my forks. Coming to a gentle stop, the last little bit it would "lurch" to a stop, and the front forks would compress a bit. I was thinking it was some kind of drag or sticktion on the fork tubes, and I was beginning to get a little concerned. Yesterday I noticed that there was some drag on the pivot point on the front brake lever, and it would hang up just a bit, then "pop" over and apply a sudden final braking force to the front. This is what created the illusion of a sudden compression of the forks. Took em off, cleaned em with brake cleaner, greased them a bit, and it's slick as butter. Didn't realize how much degradation of the braking feel had taken place.

Gotta love a cheap (free) fix!

Rob

Once a year maintenance, clean and relube both the brake and clutch lever assemblies.
It makes a feelable difference.

I find I need to do this more than once a year -- more like once every couple of months. In particular, if I've washed the bike or ridden in the rain.

I take 'em apart, clean with WD-40, then alcohol, then reassemble with a light film of white lithium grease on all bearing parts.

Works wonders for the feel, as you have noticed.

You don't realize what a difference it makes until you do it. Mine started to get a little un-smooth and a little cleaning and lube makes it ooh so smoooth.
