I've been cursed with a surging bike and have to ride through town every day. In the city the speed is 30mph. I had the dealer run it on the dyno at 30mph in second gear, they told me that it "does not like to be ran that slow" I assume that they mean rpms. I think that 30mph in second was near 3500rpm and seems like it should be able to cruise through town ok at that rpm. I tried first and its at 4,000rpm and just surges and jerks faster and is more annoying. The bike has the most current flash. They also told me at the dealer that my bike seems unhappy at anything under 5,000rpm and implied that that is normal. I still am wondering what "normal" is for this thing. What gear are you guys in when in town, and how does it seem to run?

Sometimes I'm in second, sometimes third at that speed, and my bike runs fine. I can take it down to around 25 in third before it starts getting annoyed.

Chevy, what pipe are you running? Looks like a modified stocker- Are you able to make any changes to ecm? I have a D&D, and the bike was "scary" lean in the 3-4k range at lower throttle positions

2nd gear for 30 mph in town. I'm a flash behind current version though.

Bott, all I have is the stock pipe mod, everything else is stock. It ran like this before the exhaust mod. I rode another bike a week ago and it had an aftermarket pipe on it and was much smoother at low speed than mine. That bike still had the factory flash. His AFV 123 and 105, my AFV always both at 100. My dealer thinks I'm a nut job but that's besides the point!

Michael:
You are a nut job!!! But so am I. I am running a K&N, denoided and the latest flash. Don't know my AFV values and don't care.

I can run at idle in 1st or 2nd w/o any surging. If you have the latest flash and it has been installed correctly you should not have any surging issues.

Heck I even short shift to 3rd at 25-30 mph but, I don't expect much acceleration. I can increase to any speed I want without any real complaining.

Chevy, mines a totally stock '09 and it does exactly what you describe. I just put up with it cause I know how it will perform beyond that stupid slow speed.

I slip the clutch a lot in second at the slower speeds to keep the buck away. It is a pain in the ass,, but when the road opens up it's AMF's!

My stock 09 CR is fine no jerkiness in the low gears till around 2500rpm, and 3000ish in the higher gears.

Thanks guys! I just wanted to see if it is me or the bike that has a problem. Sounds like we have mixed feelings on it, some do it and others don't. I just received a call and found out that someone very influential in the company got my letter and I'm going to see how it all plays out. Thanks again everyone!

My 09 CR has about 250 miles so far on the Odometer. Rode it last night at low speeds through some neighborhoods to test out the low speed surge.

Everything seems normal. Maybe just a tad of surge at about 2500RPM. 2nd gear. But nothing too crazy IMO.

Your CR has a lower final ratio than the R so things will be different in that area.

Second gear should be no problem at 30 mph. Even 3rd should run fine as long as it is minimal load (no uphill)

I've been running second or third steady throttle no up hill. I try to keep it above 3,000rpm as much as I can so it will keep the battery charged. My bike will even surge at steady throttle up to 5,000rpm. Under light or heavy acceleration the surge is minimal. Just doesn't seem normal to me.

Chevycummins, you are not alone for my bike has the same affliction. I posted about this a while back and was told there were two learning profiles for the engine computer based upon rev range. So I lugged it around town, waiting for it to get smart, which it never did. I finally just accepted Zac4Mac's claim that the 1125R was his "special needs child" (I loved that!) and just told myself to learn to live with it.

If you have a letter that went up the food chain, I am very curious to hear what they have to say.

I have a daily commute everyday through 6 miles of 30-25-30 MPH road. At 30MPH I am in second, if the traffic will pick up to 35MPH I will shift to 3rd. Everything is pretty smooth, very min surge.

I am one rev behind on flash

2nd.

If it won't run there then you need to continue to have faith in who is diagnosing why it won't.

You have a bike that seems to have an attempt at a track bike powerband. Thats really the essence of what it is,, along with a exhaust system that will pass an EPA testing facility.

I cruise thru my neighborhood at 17-18 mph in 2nd.
30 mph I will do in 3rd or 4th.
I don't have regular access to a dyno or wideband, so at present, I'm tuning for smooth.

Prior to adjusting, I had to be 60+ to shift into 6th.
Now I can cruise 45 mph in 6th, the low rpms make the Drummer a little more acceptable.

I actually ride Loretta as I did my Firebolt, very similar rpm range when riding docile.
Hella more top end tho.. : )

I usually bring mine up to 40 or 50 in first before I shift, but after reading this I went for ride just to see what happens. I can go down to 28 mph in third and the bike is still smooth. Usually I like to keep my tach. in the 5 to 6k range just so I have power when I want it. My bike is stock except for jardine exhaust and the de-noid.

I have a CR with the next to latest flash I believe and it has a slight surge at steady throttle up to at least 5k. I can run in 2nd at 30mph and it doesn't buck or anything crazy, but the surging at 50-55mph in 3rd or 4th is annoying.

How are you guys seeing your AFV for each cylinder? Is this something that the bike can display or are you using ecmspy?
