Today's blog about the Blast totally proves their hatred for anything Buell.

I read that too. That site is rubbish.

Oh I wouldn't be surprised if Buell was asked by the mothership to cease production of the Blast. I believe HD will unveil their own "entry level" bike with a lower price point than the Sportster. The Blast would outsell that new bike by reputation alone, so it makes sense.

They did run a picture of a Buell without a snotty comment, that is a bit of progress. It is I am pretty sure the Lucifer's Hammer two bike at Topeka.

I read the article, seems factual and I think outside of BWB is the prevailing thoughts..

Poor judgment is the simplest way to describe the current Blast adds killing the Buell customers integrity along with a product discontinuation. Very poor judgment that makes one wonder if this is the last year we will see any Buells since there was no evolution of product for 2010 just to the marketing and the acquisition of the more respected MV Augusta.

The latest series not being overly embraced by the masses or in the press needed a to address quality concerns and commitment to continues improvement in the marketing not just a major "my bad" so screw you approach.

Now I will get called a troll even though I have given Buell over $60,000 over the years I contend they lost their way leaving frustrated consumers with zero American options.

Get a new marketing company, conduct focus groups and do random drug testing at the factory. 2008, shame on you, 2009 shame on me, 2010, WTF.

Outside BWB? Have you read how that ad campaign is being blasted INSIDE BWB?? Don't be so quick to jump on Superbike Planet. They're just reporting it the way it is.

I read the article also and I watched the videos on Buell's site. It seemed pretty clear to me what Eric was saying was that Buell wants to focus on and be known for bikes with real world high performance. The blast was a good beginners bike but not high performance. I thought it was cool how they put the Blast to rest. It's part of the reason why I like Buell, they do things others would not dare do and they enjoy doing it.

"Drug testing the factory workers" is a very mean and spiteful for comment.

You personal attach on the line workers in East Troy was low class.

If you'd ever gone on a factory tour you would never have made that comment.

You just disappointed 200 people with an unjust comment. Congratulations. Karma builds.

And to think how did we make it here the last few months without Brad1445's insightful and thought-provoking comments such as the one above? The way he exited (with tail between legs) one would think he would be a bit more diplomatic upon return. Guess not.

So Troll or not I find one thing interesting the MV Agusta comment. Anyone know what this purchase holds for the company at all? I have seen companies buy companies and it usually brings some large changes. These bikes look real pricey. That should make them Harley's cup of tea.

Your right that was too far reaching. And I apologize to the workers. I did not mean to disrespect the people that show up to do a days work. I'm talking about the judgment of the managers, the decision makers.

The ones that sad crush a bike that last month you took someone's money for as a bike. The ones that said release the 2008 models when it was obvious they were not ready.

I don't want to be negative I just wish things had turned out differently. I think a lot of Rotax engines and what could have been with this opportunity.

To this day wondering what would have happened had they designed a new bike around the engine to celebrate the water cooled era. Married form and function. Tested and retested before release and Buell would have owned the market.

Hanging the water off the sides like luggage was a shortcut that they have now had 3 years to work on.This thread on how the Blast death is being received hits me as the same type poor judgment of a company that could easily be a world class leader.

The XB bikes are a great testimony of how good Buell can do. Those bikes are awesome.

WUT? I agree 2008 wasn't Buells best year, but 2009 was the "Blackout" year, and that was exactly what I asked for in my 2008 new bike survey.
Now, I know this goes against the "different" thing, but IMHO, I was hoping the Blast would be like the Ninja 250. The same for many years because it works, then BAM! big time makeover.
But anyway, I am over BOB. Watching the vid with Erik explain the Blast was a LOT easier to stomach then the rest of the HDesque drivel.

LOL! That was the funniest thing ever! What a hysterical way end it! EB has a great sense of humor and is not afraid to make fun of himself. That's a great quality.

Now I am happier than ever that I bought this p-o-s 08 1125r, that had a dead battery on the showroom floor, would barely idle, a bad rear blinker, recall this - recall that, lean surge up the wazzu...

But after a little tweaking runs smoooth and purrrrfect in the low end, and screams like you wish you girlfriend did, while making you hold on for dear like when spank her into the red!

I guess I'm a little twisted cause I love this bike for the same reasons i love my GF-
Sweet and gentle when I want it - nastier that hell when I need it!

Naw she ain't perfect, just one g@dd#$n exciting ride!

Fortunately there are some of us who rise above "simplest". If it seems difficult for us to understand some of the things that fascinate you folks who operate with your mental knob dialed to "2" . . . please excuse us.

I've never been to whatever that website is and feel no need to have someone tell me what to think or how to act. I do two things that would likely offend your friends there. . . .

1) I ride motorcycles.

2) I think for myself.

The small mind is so easily entertained.

My $.02....

The Blast ad is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

Those of you that are offended, dissapointed, irritated, confused, or feel in some say maligned by this commercial are just reading WWWAAaaaaaaayyyyy to much into it.

It was a JOKE. A GOOD one at that!

Time will tell if it is effective marketing, but your opinion is just that. Time after time, people opine on various marketing ideas, and the truth is that there are no 100% formulas for a successful ad. Except hot chicks in bikinis. That shit works every time. but I digress....

If you're so ****ing smart, go start a motorcycle company.

Having read the article and looked at all the stuff on the Buell website, here's what I think:

The article is stupid. Either the person who wrote it is too dense to see a joke (as in, the way that the discontinuation of the Blast was announced), or he's too biased against Buell in general to see through his own delusion.

As far as the cancellation and this year's advertising, and the 2010 models in general - I don't know the selling numbers behind the Blast (though I've read that many of them just go to the H/D rider's course thing) and I've never ridden one, but BMC has impressed me quite a lot over the past several years, since I first started looking at their bikes. Erik has built a lot of good bikes and he and his team have made outstanding headway into the mainstream sportbike market. As such, I trust the BMC team's decisions as far as how they handle their marketing and design - they know more about it than I do.

As far as this is concerned ...

"The ones that sad crush a bike that last month you took someone's money for as a bike."

Bad grammar aside, it's an utterly invalid point. At no point did Erik say that the bike was a bad design, or that the previous models were somehow flawed. His main point in the video was that the bike gave people the wrong impression of what Buell is all about, and that it's not in line with the direction that he wants the company to go. The fact that the Blast has been around for so long is evidence that it's a good bike. People buy bikes that get discontinued the next year all the time - and I don't hear anyone bitching about that. All I see here is "I don't like the fact that they showed a crushed Blast on their webpage!" If the bike had simply disappeared from the lineup, what would your complaint be?

For this year's advertising campaign, I have to say I was a bit taken aback when I first read through it. But I like it now, and you know what? It's honest about several points. Particularly the part about "owning a Buell will not make you friends." Of course, that's a rather extreme way to put it, since I'm sure we all have plenty of friends who are non-Buell riders that we ran into as a result of the sport of motorcycling.

But there's definitely a point there - and this article is a perfect example of that. No matter what accomplishments or progress Buell makes, there are always naysayers. Whether it be on the grounds of supposed "sub-par performance", styling, or on no grounds whatsoever other than they just don't like it. And we all know that they can become extremely venomous in their excessively vocal criticism, to the point of outright hostility to anyone who has ever said anything good about BMC, ever.

With that in mind, I agree with the campaign. Why not? If people are going to give you the finger no matter what, why not smile and give them the finger right back?

Oh, and uh... long time lurker, first time poster. Got me an '04 12R currently, and a 09 1125R waiting for me when I get back from deployment. God, I can't wait to ride.

Cheers!

StupidBikePlanet writers are ignorant hacks who apparently sit and rotate on corncobs while writing this drivel. Maybe they're ex-tabloid writers accustomed to sensationalism, I dunno.

Nowhere in the Buell ad does Erik proclaim or even infer that the Blast is a pile. Quite the opposite, he says positive things about it but then states that it's not a sport bike and, as such, doesn't fit his stated direction for the company. Hence the symbolic crushing bike ad.

Perhaps they should rename the site SuperbilePlanet.com, eh?

This post is almost as funny as the "article" for me.

But then again, the "humor" is hidden in plain sight in that article in the very last sentence.

It seems "Mel PeePee Lee" has gotten under the writer's skin when it comes to Buell. I "wonder" who that could be?

I don't think anyone is the least upset that the bike is discontinued.

It's just the public humiliation the current owners some who may have bought one the week before the the manufactures announcement that it's value is higher as a end table.

They should have just killed it and used the marketing dollars on building a positive message for the brand and its owners that make their existence possible.
