Do you guys see many cars braking while your passing even when you have more than enough room?
I'm seeing alot of that in the coastal, rural area I live and it can make a simple operation dangerous at times.
The ones that are staring "at you" in their mirror while your trying to pull back in behind them are the characters that you should really lookout for. Cause the whole time they're looking at you, they're foot is off the gas!, shortening the space your trying to roll into.

Does anybody see this much?

Yeah... seen it too... but I don't think it's intentional - but just a STUPID reflex action on the part of the driver when they see "something different" - first reaction is to hit the brakes before even thinking.

(Just my $0.02 theory - worth half of what you paid for it)

Oh, yeah. Never really thought about it much, but yes, that is typical.

I just file it under stupid cagers.

Something I think is interesting is how one's threat detection habits go through the roof when you ride every day. Best example is when you are rolling down an access road and there is a car stopped in a driveway or cross street, and as you approach they roll up about 6 inches or a foot. Scares the piss out of me. It's like acting out a punch at someone. The funny thing is when I'm rolling in my wife's 6000+ pound FX4 and the same thing happens, I still flinch. Can't turn off the reflex.

All in all, I think everyone would benefit from spending some time learning to ride. Makes one a much better driver.

Driving a tractor-trailer is real good practice for riding a motorcycle; people can't see either one of them.

Now that you mention it - I can't TELL you how many times I've watched a car danged near pull UNDER a trailer being pulled by a tractor - simply because the car driver wasn't processing the information.

Watch out for people texting while driving, I had to hit the gravel at 50mph a few weeks ago to avoid a head on with this person. I'm just glad I was paying attention, she came all the way over into my lane. Almost turned around to have a talk with her but probably would have ended up in jail.

Amazingly, you couldn't be more right. Maybe that's why something around 80% of all car/ truck accidents are caused by the car.

Safety tip from a truck driver--

Don't make an afternoon project out of passing a tractor trailer!!! Get around as quick as you can and keep goin, don't clear the front bumper by 2 feet then cut back in and slow down. Sounds like common sense, but cars and amazingly bikes do it to me every night at work.

Also, don't hang out along side a big truck if you can avoid it. You can get lost in a blind spot, or a tire can blow without any warning, sending the tread all over and maybe at your head. Tire treads have killed in the past, treat them like bombs that could go off at any second.

Badlionsfan the safety man out!

well it gets a bit deeper in my neck-o-the-woods. My area is a heavy vacation destination and the traffic on the coastal hwy's this time of year have pushed locals to "loco's". The tension is high and I have been in three intentional situations in the last 1 1/2 months by other vehicles.

Intentional blocking and two clear attempts to run me off the far side of the road while passing. I must clearly state that I pass in the legal areas and I don't hang right off their left rear bumper either. The 1125 has plenty of passing power and it just don't need to be right on their ass to get the job done. I see these people looking in their mirror, I'm not guessing at they're intentions.

A couple other events were after passing and settling back into my lane,, guys looking in they're door mirror at me and whack the brake real quick.

I have lived in this area my whole 57yrs, give or take a couple,, but I have never seen this type of action at this level before. I picked up riding again after being away from it for 17yrs,, maybe I picked a bad time.

i tend to put my 1125's raw HP/TQ combo to work when i feel like passing another vehicle. i make sure that i am in a juicy gear, and do not hesitate to wind the bike up a little bit.

i generally blow past people when passing so fast that it takes them a few seconds to realize i was even behind them; with zero time to do something dumb with their car that would negatively affect me!

THATS my safe passing technique and it hasnt let me down yet!
