well as some of you may know,comming up shortly is ther WV buell rally. i live in ohio and from what im told its like a 5 hour ride... im riding down with some people, but most have ulys or somethin so its a bit easier for them. im having a little issue tho. i need to bring clothes for a weekend, a tent, a tarp,and a few other things maybe. how can i do this? lol tent in the tent bag is compact but a few feet long so that wont fit in a tent bag. i wqas told get saddle bags and stuff the tent in it dont fold or roll. but that still leavs me with the poles i could put them and stuff a sleeping bag in a back pack. and then in the other saddle bag put what i can fit for clothes. but having a back pack on for 5 hours seams like a real pain in the rear.. wich leads me to needing the touring seat but not having money to buy bags and this and that just for this trip... can some one lend a creative hand please. iv never done anything like this before and have no clue where to begin and what wont cost an arm and a leg... id love to bring the "gf" but that seams like a deff no way its gunna happen fit anther person to top it chris | ||

"a few feet long" is gunna be a problem on a 1125. I use a large folded over gym bag for my clothes, and adjustable bungies to tie it down. The stock seat is murder for a 5hr and up ride for me,, like ridin' a horse for a full day the first time. course, at 58, everything I do has some pain involved. i bought a new tent, one of the hiking style tents that collapses to about a 6"diameter and bout 20" long and placed it into the bottom of a sportbag with my travel items. i also put a tankbag, tailbag and modified the firebolt bags to fit the 1125R. had to cut and weld the mount bracket. i then bungied the sportbag on top of the tailbag and saddlebags. they have an 1125 specific saddlebag setup now. did 3 1000mile + camping trips last year along with some shorter ones. i'll be riding the 1125r to the indy motogp next month. can you say corbin? tim | ||

For the Homecoming trip this year, I added the removable saddlebags, and strapped a larger bag across the top of the passenger area. Just strapped a small tent (in the bag with poles) across the top of that. No infringement on the rider area, so it didn't hamper my comfort at all.  | ||

You could have your girlfriend drive a "chase vehicle" with all your gear. Then you'll have all your stuff and the g-friend as well. I plan on getting a hotel room if I can go, depends on work. It's about a 2 hour ride for me. | ||

What Ponti1 shows is about what you will be able to pack. You can substitute 1st Gear or Chase Harper bags, there are a number of good brands. Strapping on a back bag and tent across the pillion is acceptable, just don't load it too heavy and securely fasten it. You better get a move on to get things ordered and tried out since you only have 2 weeks or so. | ||

I was looking at the coretech saddle bags and tail bag that all work together. But don't know about size. And that's about 200 bucks and I really didn't wanna spend that kinda money. Esp when I was trying 2 get another seat. Wich I don't think is gunna happen. This blows lol. | ||

I had the same issue as you when I decided to ride 22 hours to March Badness last year on my Firebolt. I came up with a hard-bag setup, but they were still far too small to fit any tent I could find, and doing more than an hour with a backpack is just annoying. If where you're going to camp has trees (and looking at last years WV Rally I'm pretty sure they do), this is a GREAT solution as it packs up to about the size of a football: http://hennessyhammock.com/ I have the Expidition Asym and it works great. I recently rode my 1125r 1700 miles in 4 days. It was 5 hours from home to where we were staying and all the riding around threw the mountains. I used the buell saddle bags, tail and tank bag. I was able to pack all my food, cloths, sleeping bag which was setting on top of one of the saddle bags and tent on top of the other. I set another small bag on top of the tail bag and just put a net over it and hooked it threw the loops on each end of the saddle bags and it held the sleeping bag and tent with no problem from Alabama to Missouri. To be honest I carried alot more than I needed but I didnt want to leave anything at home. | ||

I'm at work on my phone so I can't really look into that right now. But what is it just like a rain shelter? You just sleep on the ground? It's a hammock - you sleep up off the ground, the hammock is enclosed with a mosquito net, and there's a rain fly that goes over top to keep you dry. | ||

another way would be to ups your stuff to the campground or one of the hotels another attendee is staying at. i did that once coming back, i sent my stuff home and rode straight through unhindered. tim | ||

I'm thinking about it. I posted in the event thread that I need to find someone to cover my Saturday shift and then find a tent to use. This looks like it'd be a blast! Maybe I could find someone else in the DC area to follow up there. | ||

If the tent poles are too big cut them in half (or more) and find a PVC coupling that they fit snugly into. The inside rim of the PVC coupling will keep them snug and gives additional flex (handy if you're in a windy area). You can also coat the inside of the fittings with primer and/or a thin layer of glue (let it dry)to make the fit snugger. There are also aftermarket collapsible flexible rods (like a fishing pole) that can be used to overcome this problems. Its lighter, smaller and packs down better. |
