\blue It's headed towards Nascar territory and from the surface it appears that Buell/Harley is in bed with them. }

I'm getting tired of statements like this. first of all it is two separate unrelated "opinions" linked together so I would like to question each separately.

Headed towards NASCAR. I don't get the problem with this. NASCAR is the second most watched sport on TV (NFL still is # 1). What is wrong with having fans watch close racing and having sponsors dump big money into the sport. Motorcycle racing should hope to become even half as popular. Hell NASCAR has become so popular you have Formula 1 and Indy drivers begging for NASCAR rides.

Next, what is wrong with a manufacturer cooperating with the governing body. Why does everyone think that the manufacturers should fight the rules. Bravo to Buell for going to AMA and saying this is what we want to do and trying to get approval first. Should Buell have just showed up with a modified bike and hoped to pass inspection so that the internet world would not see them as having "slept with the enemy"? Seriously, that is what you are saying.

I don't understand how the AMA is heading towards NASCAR. If anything they are heading AWAY from NASCAR. NASCAR is spec racing. The teams all build a car that meets super tight constraints, to the point that they all have the same cars with different setup.

If anything MOTOGP and WSBK is much closer to NASCAR in that sense.

AMA racing is allowing a variety of bikes. If anything they are getting closer to good, old fashioned American "run whatcha brung and hope ya brought enough" racing.

As far as the "legality" of what Buell has done with this bike WRT this racing series, it's a slam dunk.

The guy's who make the "law" said.....

"O.K. That'll work."

The End.

Nothing wrong with working within the system!

What makes NASCAR so popular is in the last 3 laps 10 different drivers have a chance of winning. If you are a racing fan it makes for exciting finishes. In most AMA races only 1 or 2 rides have a real chance of winning.

I think DMG was trying to make for more exciting NASCAR-like finishes by grouping the field with full course cautions. The idea was OK, the execution has been a joke (see Laguna).

From an AMA press conference at Mid Ohio...

"The position is that it's an 1125RR based on the 1125R, that went through the homologation process that our rulebook mandates that all bikes would have to go through, and that it's approved to race this weekend."

Argument over, GO BUELL RACING!!!

Just to break the cycle of this thread, we should be celebrating the fact the Danny Eslick just won race 1 at Mid-Ohio!

And celebrate that Taylor finished 7th in DSB and 12th in Superbike, meaning the 1125RR is on it's way. Not bad for the first outing for a modified 1125R that is still 20mph down on the field with about 160RWHP vs. over 200 on the Japanese bikes.

I have never in my life seen such absurdity as has been circulating on some web sites. The 1125RR is an 1125R with a kit of parts that is available to anyone. For the price of what Graves or Erion will build you a DSB bike, you get a Superbike.

The AMA wanted us to install the kits at the factory to make the bikes easier for a privateer to race, and since it was assembled and shipped from the factory kitted for racing, the bike had to become a new model to avoid EPA, etc.

Y'know when Ducati was starting out, all kinds of breaks were given to them and everyone applauded. There were huge breaks for the Foggy Petronas and Benelli, all who had more money than Buell. Yet here we are with a tiny American company doing the same thing, and the haters come out in force.

AMA is turning into what NASCAR USED to be. In the 50's, 60's and into the 70's, there was a very broad field of cars, all finding different ways to achieve the same goal, win. All different body styles and shapes, different engine combinations and such. More of a privateer feel to it with a guy building a car in his garage and towing it to the track.

I love what's going on and hope dmg doesn't cave to those who can't stand change and build a unique racing series for the country that throws and carries the ball in a game called football.

I hate to harp, but...

+1 Badlionsfan!

Rodger Edmondson & DMG know what racing is about and the formula, while rough at this point, is still plausible and viable. Once Mladin got his 2009 racebike, the racing got REALLY interesting! I wish no ill will on Suzuki, but I love to see other marques battling for the TOP PODIUM POSITION other than Suzuki! Larry Pegram is my AMA Superbike hero as of right now! Only insofar as that he's on a twin superbike. I hope that Buell is positioning 1125R & 1125RR bikes to contest this. Ultimately, I want to see Ben Spies on a Buell 1125R contesting the WSBK title, but that's just me...

Taylor Knapp, you have my undiluted support in all of your racing endeavors!

GO BUELL RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well as we all expected, the RR didn't run away from the competition, so much for bringing a gatling gun to a knife fight : p

Great run by Knapp and Higbee though!!!! Doing Buell Racing proud!!! Can't wait to see how the RR does with a little more cockpit time for Knapp!
