Court is the man! He caught wind of this and sorted everything right out for me. I went from dead in the water to an appointment on Friday!

Hey, that's sooner than me! Court is using his Jedi mind powers again to affect the weak minds at dealerships... isn't there some kind of intergalactic law, forbidding this sort of thing?

Good for you...

Fortunately the dealer in this case suffers from no such malady and, as I have come to expect, was a major player in delivering a rapid solution.

Ducdood9, just to make something clear. I never actually left my 1125R with the local dealership. Instead, over the last two months, they just told me to keep checking with them to see if they had received any of the kits.

I dropped my bike off at the dealership that i purchased the motorcycle with on Saturday, they stated they would order the kit on Tuesday and hopefully have it in approximately 3 days. It was this dealership that stated I had to leave the motorcycle with them due to the safety recall. I don't care if they have the bike for a week or two, I just want it fixed, fixed right, and ready to ride. Thats better than waiting for 2 months for a nothing to show up at the local dealership.

The thing that gets me is that Service Bulletin states very clearly (and as I posted above) that dealerships have to order the kit through the bikes vin!!! This makes sense, but instead the local guys just kept blowing smoke up my ass. How difficult is it to actually look at the Service Bulletin for the affected recall instead of standing behind the counter and doing absolutely nothing. I mean seriously, does anyone else see a problem with this???

Your local dealers are giving you the run around! Simple as that. Checked the recall backorder status today on h-dnet and their isn't one. I would try another dealer if possible. Harley is pretty good about getting the recall kits to the dealers as long as they request such a part (i.e. order it!)

Griff, thanks for the info. I took the bike to a different dealer and they have sorted the situation out. They said that it would take about 3 days to receive the kit. I have confidence that they will take care of everything. I just wish I would have gone to them 2 months ago.

Tell your dealer there are plenty of kits in stock at Franklin Distribution Center.

Went to the dealer today...they did the bracket relocate and the fork sticker. I had to "discuss" with the tech and manager that the line should be changed as it is worn "to the stainless braid". They are ordering a new line.

They didn't have any of the parts for the Product Improvement plan so I will have to go back again.

They are also ordering parts for the clutch weep and to replace the jiggling left mirror.

The manager told me "they CAN'T warranty" the cracked right mirror. It has formed the "moon" crack. Anyone know how to handle this? Should I call Buell Customer Service?

I also have the "moon" crack in the mirror and asked them to replace under warranty. One mirror has already been replaced due to the same reason. The Dealer said they were not sure if this would be covered under the warranty again. I guess we'll see. I gave them the bike last Saturday and am still waiting to hear something. Hopefully soon.

Tell me about this "moon" crack.

My first reaction is that it would not be warranty. Two of the same thing catches my eye.

P.S. - All I really need are simple facts or a photo. If you want to protest, sue Buell for flawed design or convince me your life is in grave danger . . . . spare me.

Court,
Here is a pic of the "moon crack". I don't know if you can tell, but the "chip" is definitely NOT from the side of the mirror you can touch. I don't know what is going on, but the bike lives in my garage and I parked it without it one evening and when I went to back out the next morning this was there. It is about 80 degrees F in NJ this time of year if that matters.
I did a search and there are a few threads with similar issues.

Good Evening Court, I can take a picture of my mirror (assuming it wasn't replaced) tomorrow after I pick up my bike. Its very similar to what AVC shows and in the exact same spot.

Whats strange is that its not cracking from the outside, but from the inside. If you rub your finger over the crack you can't feel it. Dealer thinks that the mirror may be getting too hot.

I'm not real sure how the mirror gets too hot considering the bike is always garaged and rarely parked in direct sunlight.

Also, this is the second time this has happened. First to the Left Mirror, and now to the right.

I am definitely not alone on this one.

Just as Helicon described, you can't feel the damage from the outside so it didn't come in contact with anything to cause this. It is like whatever the glass is bonded to either separated or twisted causing the glass to chip. (theory of course)

Court, I sent you a message. Thanks for your help.

I picked up the bike this morning, the service manager said he would order me a new mirror and replace it under warranty. He also said he knew who you were ... Do you have a reputation that precedes you???

Up to Date flash was loaded, Front Brake Line Recall completed, and turn signal replaced. Bike Ran great on the way home. Only problem is when I get home and take apart the turn signal I see that it wasn't replaced with a Rev D version...

I used Rocky Mountain Harley in Littleton. I live about an hour away from there, but they have been pretty good to me. I recently tried dealing with Pikes Peak Harley (again), and unfortunately they really have no idea what they are doing. If I lived further north I might give High Country Harley a chance too, but that is almost a 2 hour ride each way.

Thanks, and sorry for the thread hijack. Pikes Peak HD is the first dealer I ride by on my way to HCHD. I gave them many chances and am not impressed.

I thought if you went to PPHD that maybe they changed.

It is about 2.5 hours for me to go to HCHD but they, in my opinion, are the best Buell dealer in Colorado.

I am glad Littleton is taking care of your mirror. If you ever find yourself wanting to ride South let me know.

Frank

Thanks for the info Frank. As I am sure you are well aware, you and I are not the only ones that have had problems with PPHD. At some point us front range Buellers should meet up and do a ride ... I can think of at least 5 of us.

I have always wanted to have 20 or so Buells meet in the parking lot of PPHD then leave without walking inside the dealership. I am sure you are aware but here is the link to the Colorado Buell Riders section: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 194028.html?1247871282

Again, I am sorry for the hijack but I am really interested in seeing your 1125 in person someday.

>>>Do you have a reputation that precedes you???

: )

I've been to over 200 Buell dealers in official and unofficial capacities. In addition, before I got "Buell'd" Harley-Davidson CEO Rich Teerlink used to bring me to the dealer meetings and I did a couple speeches for him. I've made some great friends of lots of dealers. I used to have a bit of a reputation of sneaking up on dealers. : )

I'm glad to hear this worked out for you. I'll be submitting a report on the condition and interceding in any case where a customer has any problem getting warranty coverage.

The immediate fix, from the customers perspective, is easy to do now. In the longer term, I'll visit with the RPE (Responsible Purchasing Engineer) to review the condition with the vendor.

Thanks for your input. Concise, accurate information is very helpful.

Thanks,
Court
