I was offered a good deal on a 08 R, for $9999, no fees other than state tax. Because I am awesome (read: spend a ton) I will also be getting a $750 gift card. I have a 765 credit so I qualify for the 3 year 3.99% financing, and it would be $340 a month for it. I can easily afford it. Problems are, it’s a 08, I rather have a 09, and I rather have a CR. I love the look of the CR, the shorter gearing, the way the red looks with the black, and the higher output charging system on the 09. I am sure I can live with the 08, but I know it will be one of those "What if?" things.

Your thoughts? I might just wait it out a few more days and see what 2010 brings. It would be a real kick in the balls to buy that and suddenly they come out with something I would fall in love with instantly.

I am not sure when the 2010's are to be released but I would let them sit on them a little longer. I know that is what I am doing. The bikes are not bringing 6 grand on ebay right now. There are tons of them still in show rooms and crates. See if you like the new one's and if not I would bet you can still find a deal on an 08. Heck before long they will most likely be offering to buy you a dinner just to take one.

I was faced with even a better deal on an 08 R, but I decided to wait. I rarely buy bikes and I keep them forever. I hate selling anything. So, for me I kind of decided I would probably be better of buying what I really want even if it costs a bit more. Of course, I also love bargains, so I am still tempted and if the dealership still has the 08 in a few months for a great deal I might still end up with it. If they sell it, I am ok with that too.

Froggy, you must be going for one of the shorter term loans for the payment to be $340, that seems pretty high.

Johnny, there you go picketing again :+{. Just because you have some issues with your 08'......

Anyway, at 24,000+ miles my 08' runs stronger EVERY day! THe real but in the equation is, you want a CR! Why go for a red head when you want a blonde??? If you were tight on $'s and waffeling b/t the cr and r then I would consider the r, for that price.

The recall and updates have really solved those early issues with the 08 1125r's (IMHO). You can always swap the r front goodies for the cr goodies but then you price difference would almost be a wash.

Oh yeah in a few weeks the Dealer meeting will happen and the 10' will be revealed. But, they probably won't be available until September to Oct, for the real new offerings. THis will also give all the Dealers an incentive to sell their 09' stock.

IMHO, go with what you want and you will be happy with over the next few years.

After going from a cityX to an 1125r, one thing I never knew how much I'd like is the wind protection. The 25r is much more pleasant at higher highway speeds and early morning chilly temps.

I'm having my first issue with my bike right now, the infamous clutch weep. I'm gonna drop it off at my favorite local dealer when I go on vacation in aug, so stay tuned for updates on that.

Best way I can put it is I haven't missed my cityX that I spent a lot of time and money customizing for 1 mile of riding since the trade in at the end of aug last year.

The bike is at a Buell friendly dealer, not one of those blowout $5k bike dealers, hence the seeming "high" price, other than the bike, I am only paying about a grand in tax (thank you NY!), and about $600 to finance it. Thats $12240 after all said and done after the 36 months. Then $750 gift card to waste on more crap I don't need : )

Also, its all up to spec with the flashes, the dealer owner is the one that was trying to sell it to me, and he mentioned all that before I asked.

Anyway reliability is the least of my concerns, it will have a 2 year warranty, and I got two more Buell's should it really lemon out on me by some chance.

Ccryder, who would take a blonde over a redhead? : D

I say go for it, but beware, your other buells WILL become jealous of the 1125r when you keep pulling it out of the garage over the other 2.

Is the payment you calculated correct, Using the payment calculator on the Buell site, a 36 month term at 3.99% with 11,999 as the total price and less 10% down $1.199.90 which is required by ESB equals: $318.78* Estimated Monthly Payment (with $10,799.10 financed).

Being that they are selling the bike for $9999, the minimum payment would be $999, but I hate 9's so I am dropping a clean grand. Actually I might have to pony up a few more dollars because of the tax, but whatever, close enough : )

The other bikes won't be jealous, I broke 40k miles on the Ulything the other day, Blast has gotten 1000 miles since buying it about a week and a half ago, and the car just sits and rots on a battery tender : )

First of all +1 on Neil's comment (except for the redhead vs blonde thing).

I'm at 20K on mine and no extracurricular issues. And you state yourself that you have confidence in the 08s.

So, the real question you have to ask yourself...
- are you comfortable on it?

For around $750 in plastics you can make it red or white, if you so desire.

Decisions - decisions. Fun conundrum to have, isn't it?

New models are announced in less than one month, and you're reccomending he buy now? WTF?! Are you guys dealers or something?

BEST OPTION IS TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER DEALER SHOW. THE BIKES WON'T GET MORE EXPENSIVE.

Also, I've had loads of problems with my 2008. No, I'm not making this up cc. Also, I counted 5 2008 1125Rs in the shop the last time I dropped it off. SD Harley/Buell if you dont believe. The guys that ride all highway miles are not gonna have the same issues

Starter Motor and relay
Clutch cover weep/replacement
Cluster replacement
Fouled spark plugs
Failed turn signals
Numerous factory recalls, inlcuding reflashes

OK so 2010 will have what a new Motor?? All new electrical?? I personally don't see what wrong with the 2008. Sure you can wait and get the 2010 and pay $4k more for some additional cosmetics but I think the power plant is here for a while and I doubt much different then the 2009 performance which we all know is slower then the 08's.

Tell us how it failed and what it did?

What day did it happen?

In the interest of accuracy . . . let's cut past the internet jibberish. Here is the COMPLETE OFFICIAL UNITED STATES NHTSA lift of recalls.

If you had been laid, say 3 times last year, would you say you'd been laid "numerous times". The internet tends to distort and skew facts.

Here are some REAL ones.

Would I do it over again? Hummm.....honestly I'm 50/50 on that one. I love ridding the bike, on the track it is a blast and for shorter days, 200 miles, its a lot of fun. It's just been in the shop too much. That said, I'm going to a different dealer now who seems to get it so I'm going to stick it out.

Now if I can just keep my nuts from roasting!

Wait, 08 will be two model years old in days, you can beat that price, or get an 09 at that price.

I personally would be afraid to pay more than $4,500 for an 08 model as they will be really tough to resale in the used market as many will assume you are selling it because it was one of the possessed ones..

I think that list is short Court as many items should have been recalled ie the rear signals, the instrument clusters, kick stands, leaking clutches.

These items (and more) are not called recalls but they sure don't sound like fun for the consumer.

That is the total and complete list of RECALLS.

There is a propensity to refer to any problem as a "recall". This creates mis-information.

Buell is presently one of the most reliable motorcycles made.

I'm disputing nothing you've said. Just tempering it with accuracy.

The term, "numerous recalls" is patently inaccurate.

If you like it just buy the damn thing!

Why worry about saving a few bucks when you could own and ride one of these bikes for way less than MSRP?

$9999 is a hell of a deal if you ask me.

Just my .02 but if you like the cr better, why buy the r? Pick the one you want and wait for the price you want when the 10s come out the 9s will be cheaper and the 8s will be really cheap. I think whoever said wait for the 2010s to come out had a good point. I know I have a 05 dodge ram, when the 06 came out the price went from 30k to 20k, glad I waited.

This is like the news networks. One side may be overplaying the flaws and then you have the other side come on here and list exactly three recalls like that is it. That only makes me think less of the bikes. If those are the only three items they are addressing when all the other problems exist and are just going to fail later so you have to leave the bike at the shop instead of handling it up front like they should. Most reliable bikes are you kidding me. I have had lots of bikes and that statement is laughable.

News is right.

That is why i discount the tales of woe. Internet blows up the minutia to make things interesting, just like the news does. Whereas general success and overall happiness is too boring and therefore needs to be discounted and discredited.

Had recalls and campaigns addressed by my dealer while I waited.

This bike has been more reliable over the 20K miles so far than my previous bike, a BMW R1100S, by far. They never got the fueling right on the Beemer. They have on my 1125R.

So..pipe up somebody!
And proceed to tell me that I'm a dealer, work for Buell, or just a general nitwit that don't have enough sense to be outraged over things that work right.

I think this thread has drifted faaar away from what Froggy intended. Isn't the first time and won't be the last.
