I took the new to me 1125r to inspection in good ol New Fricken Jersey. Went through the hoopla of checking signals/horn/brake lights/helmet (reflective). He is about to go inside and asks "where is the exhaust?". I point to the muffler under the bike. He says "you got baffles in there?". I explained it was stock. He didn't believe me. He made me rev it a few times and he didn't look convinced. I showed him the EPA cert. Finally he just walked away and came back 5 minutes later with a sticker.

Welcome to NJ...even STOCK bikes get criticized.

BTW: Registration is $65 now instead of $31.50!

The stock exhaust is a little deceiving to the eye. I had no idea how HUMONGOUS that thing was until I saw some photos of me cornering at NJ Motorsports Park during California Superbike School. That thing is HUGE, but it's well hidden underneath the bike.

reg is really cheap in NJ compared to CA. My 1990 Kawi police run out cost 69. I don't even look at how my reg fees for my 25r or my vehicles...just hurts the wallet.

Have you ever seen the back of the can when the rear wheel is off? That's the first time I realized how huge it is. YOu are right, it is hidden extremely well.

It is funny. The inspector was the 2nd guy to ask if the exhaust was stock. Another guy waiting for inspection with a Ducati Monster commented that it "looked cool".

No inspections here in MT. Perm. Registration and licensing for $86 and no sales tax... I like the stock exhaust, until I can afford to like the HPE and a Factory Race fairing that is...

Avc8130, I took mine in for inspection in Flemington, NJ last year. The guy started inspecting it and asked me what year it was. When I told him it was an 08 he said it didn't need to be inspected.

He asked me for a yellow card from the dealer and I didn't have it. So he sent me to Motor Vehicle up the road to get said card, which amazingly took only 15 minutes.

When I returned he filled out some paperwork and slapped on a 4 yr. new vehicle sticker. Next inspection 2012.

Don't know why bike dealers can't do that like auto dealers when you purchase.

Try Indiana. I just renewed the plates on my 2003 XB9R. It was $100.00.

Palerider,
Dealers should do that...most just suck. I thought about that but I didn't know I could go get the yellow card from a "real" DMV. Darn.

A lot of states are broke and poorly run. High vehicle registrations are a way to help generate fee revenue to support programs.

if he didn't like the stock muffler's sound, you can forget about the D & D exhaust then! It's the loudest exhaust system I've ever heard, but me likey!

If I had an aftermarket exhaust I would just do what everyone else does...pay $25 to a dealer to get a sticker. I just figured with a completely stock bike I could get my inspection done since I paid $65 for it through registration!
