I just bought and installed the Jardine RT-5 exhaust in carbon fiber. List price is $599, but Rob at Skip Fordyce (racerxusa here on BadWeB) got me 15% off on Buell night. I also got the Pro-Tune-3 card for $150 (list is $310) but I haven't installed that yet. Here's a couple pics of the pipe (sorry for the crappy cropping/resizing job):








I have to say I'm somewhat underwhelmed with the level of customer service I received from Jardine. For one thing, the pipe took about 2 months to be delivered, despite numerous assurances along the way by Jardine that it would be ready "next week at the latest." Also (and this one is on me), I didn't know, and they didn't bother telling me, that carbon fiber is not recommended for street exhaust (they knew it was for the street). Apparently the heat, along with UV light, degrade the resin within a few years. My first inkling of this was the big warning sticker on the pipe stating that the CF comes without warranty.

On to the good stuff:

Installation was quick and easy, and only required a few basic tools. I admit I fumbled around for a while getting the stock pipe off, but the new one went on in about 10 minutes - 2 clamps, 2 bolts, and 3 springs. Fit and finish are good and the thing looks great.

Sound wise, it ROARS --- scary loud. It is essentially a straight pipe; it does have packing, but you can look through the back of the pipe and see the mid-pipe. It's not quite as loud as my friends' straight-pipe Harleys, but very close. The note is also close (at least at idle), with a deep, bassy rumble. I have to say that if it came with a baffle, I would probably consider using it. Earplugs are a possibility.

From a performance perspective, I am inclined to believe Jardine's claims of increased HP and torque, though all I have is the old butt-dyno. It's entirely possible that the adrenaline induced by all the snarling just makes it SEEM faster. But it does seem faster.

Although I only have about 100 miles on it so far, it did change my AFV's. Previously they were at 94.5/100.0 (F/R); now they're at 104.5/100.0. I'm going to wait a few hundred more miles before I install the Pro-Tune-3 and see what that does.

All in all, I'm pretty happy so far. The only thing I would consider changing if I had it to do all over again is that I MIGHT choose Titanium (also $599) or Aluminum ($499) instead of the CF.

Good picts of the Jardine. If you have a means to rubber mount it you will be better off in the long run. From Tuber experience, CF is strong but it can be brittle and rubber mounting should help.

Watch the rivets for signs of loosening and replace them b4 they get too loose.

Besides this, RIDE IT AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!

Thanks CC.

When you say rubber mounting, do you mean just like an o-ring or something on the rear bracket (see the nickel bolt just above the CF on the top photo)? Or is it something else?

Also, I was told that using a UV protectant would help. I chose Armor-All. Anybody else have advise in this respect?

Keep an eye on the bonded parts of your muffler also, I have had past Jardine CF mufflers blow the end off and shoot the guts all over the street. I am sure they have improved their design since then (2002) but it sure made me a little gun shy about their carbon stuff.

Canvas/ fiber reinforced rubber washers (McMaster-Carr: http://www.mcmaster.com/#rubber-washers/=2mc49w ) under the bolt head b/t the hanger bracket and mounting point would help. Just don't torque down the bolt too much and squeeze the sh!t out of the rubber. Locking nuts/ blue Loctite is your friend. Can you tell I've been there and done that ;+}.

No, I want to wait for a few hundred miles to let the ECM learn whatever it needs to about the pipe --- and to isolate to the source of any potential problems --- before I add the PT3.

I'm out of town for a week. Figure another week to run up the miles. I'll Install the card around 7/18, and report back shortly after that.

JT, I'm glad you chimed in. I remember you initially had a problem with your can hitting the ground on the track. While I eventually hope to do a track school, the closest I've come so far is a parade lap at about 95 mph at Fontana on 7/4. No problems, but I didn't really have much lean on it.

But when I compared my installation to Rob's (racerxusa), I see that in addition to my can being about an inch and a half shorter, it does seem to sit a little lower and further off to the side than his. I know it's hard to tell from these photos, but can you compare the position of my can to your own - both before and after the redesign? I'm wondering if maybe I botched the placement or orientation of the bracket.

HEY MARCO,
it looks ok...should be fine...looks like the set up on our race bike.
we just took a 4TH..two 3RDS & a 2nd this week end at SUMMIT POINT with that pipe !!!!
sounds great doesn't..great track pipe...might run a little lean on the bottom end or the street...but i'm sure you'll be ok..when you put the pro tune on if you need help ...i've spoken to chris neeley...great guy eager to help, let me know

I picked up an alu one off of Flea Bay, shipped to the house of $399. Not bad. The bike dropped 15lbs, with fuel its now at 440 lbs. The stock anchor is 19.9!

I've got the jardine on my 08 and the clearance between the swingarm and the tip of the exhaust is really close. You have tons of room between exhaust tip and swingarm, wonder why mine is so tight

They redesigned the pipe, for one thing. It's a little shorter now. Also, you might want to check the mounting bracket to see if there's any play you can take advantage of and increase the clearance a little?

Mine is in the shop for clutch weep (again). Apparently I caused this one when I dropped the bike about a month ago . If I get it back by Friday I'll install the PT3 and report on results thereafter.

we have the pro tune 3...we tried it ..took it off for races, didn't have time to play with it...we felt a great increase in torque and horse at top end, it was very impressive..the bottom end is where we had some issues...we will be spending some time working with CHRIS at jardine when we get some track time

I guess anything's possible. But I did buy from a dealer (Skip Fordyce HD in Riverside CA) and waited about 2 MONTHS for my pipe to show up --- because it was being redesigned. I suspect that no "old" pipes remain in stock.

Also, from what I understand, the differences between the new design and the old one are pretty minor --- unless, like JerseyThunder, you are running your 1125 to podiums at the track (congratulations JT). Admittedly, I'm still a novice, but I would have a tough time getting enough lean to scrape the pipe on the ground.

I did compare my can to Rob's at Skip (racerxusa here on BadWeB). Mine is about 1.5 inches shorter, seems maybe (even) a little louder, and --- oddly --- does stick out just a bit further to the side. But, again, it will be a long time before I'm able to push the bike enough to make that an issue.

the first run is fine for street and novice track days.....the latest version was made because we dragged and almost low sided and JARDINE stepped up and did the right thing and sent us one of the first "high mount" systems.....we like the jardine, for the price you pay you get a guality pipe and with us and our shop they stand behind there product..if you have any questions or need help with jardine stuff let me know

I am using the Daytona Twin Tech Tuner with K&N air filter. It is pretty great above 5000RPM, I am waiting for the $6 plug for the de-noid then want to put it back on the dyno to see if the bottom can be helped out. Is no one else using the Twin Tech?

For the others running the jardine on the 1125, does your bike back-rap and pop when down shifting and in between shifts? My does all the time and I just want to make sure it is normal.

Yes, it does a little at decel in lower speeds. Once I get up to speed, it abates. Rob's pipe (racerxusa) also does, if I remember correctly. Rob?
