Rumor is that Harley will buy the now defunct Benelli to support MV Augusta's goal of building a inline tripple. Any news on on this?

Benelli is hardly defunct. In fact it is owned by one of the world's largest motorcycle manufacturers Qianjiang. As they build around 1.2 million motorcycle each year I would say that they would be in a stronger position to take over Harley than teh other way around right now (especially given H-D's well publicised financial worries).

Benelli are committed to launching more new models including the new 756 twin, so I don't think they are quite defunct just yet.

"...in a stronger position to take over Harley than the other way around..."

yer delusional, Mate. Quianjiang is primarily a domestic scooter mfr., has serious over-capacity issues, and is subsidized by the Chinese govt. H-D on the other hand, is a multi-national public company with a current market capitalization of $4 billion.

As for H-D's "well publicised [sp]financial worries" they are profitable, continue paying dividends to their shareholders, and are currently sitting on $4 billion+ in cash and marketable securities.

You simply do not know what you are talking about at best, or are deliberately spreading falsehoods for whatever reason.

I wouldn't have commented but for the egregious, off-the-wall comments you have posted. Borders on slander, it does.

Harley has their issues and challenges. They also have some seasoned executives and staff at the helm.

I hope when I have "issues" my biggest problem is having "ONLY" a net after tax profit of . . . $186,000,000.00.

I've not sold my stock yet.

Benelli is haveing problems or at least their owners are. You may buy a Benelli new on ebay for dealer cost, which screws the dealers. My local Benelli dealer is so pissed he can't see straight. Last I heard all of the dealers were going to sue Benelli corp. Probably to no avail

Benelli has been in negative balance since they came back in the market of the motorcycle with the chinese owners.
for this reason, next year a lot of costs will be cut, included the production.
Benelli is a very powerful bike, but not as pretty as the other italian brands like Ducati, Aprilia and MV.
in my opinion, their designers are not good for the italian market, which is the one that gives the whole factory the worldwide view.
I have a friend of mine in Italy who owns a Tornado TRE, he's very happy, this is his second bike actually, but he's stacked with the brand, since he would never be able to sell a used Benelli, unless he loses a lot of money!
I don't believe in this news, I don't think CRC will need the help of Benelli to develop his 675, 3 cylinders' engine for the new bikes.
and never heard it before from my friends in the Italian forums...
