Ok, I stopped by my local HD/Buell dealership today for no particular reason, which may have been a mistake. I am in the process of putting money away from a second job I am working with the intention of buying a bike in when the second job ends in 3-6 months. I now have about $4500 set aside. I hope to have $8,000 - 10,000 by the time I buy the bike and would like to be able to pay case and finance nothing. I have been leaning toward a Ulysses, but I have not made my mind up completely, as looking and deciding can be fun in itself. Then today while I was looking at the small Buell selection, the salesman told me the new 08 was going for 7995. I know this upsets some on this board, I have read several posts to that effect, but the bottom line is that is a good deal. I do like the 09 colors better, but I really like saving $4000. The salesman assures me all recalls and updates have been done. He apparently took care of that for an internet sale that fell through. Now, I want that 08 for 8 grand! It doesn't fit into my plans though. I wanted to wait and pay cash. I don't have time to ride now working two jobs anyway. I have never had a sport bike and I am not sure my old body can take it. The reasons not to buy go on and on. But...I do like the 1125r. It is a screaming deal. It probably won't be available in 3-6 months when I had planned to buy. I hate being undecided! | ||

I did what you are considering and saved a bundle. If the dealership is supportive about taking care of issues do it. Harley credit is pretty much giving money away. Just be prepared for some serious shop time. If you are okay with that DO IT! | ||

Dyna has said, "I have never had a sport bike and I am not sure my old body can take it." Let me assure you Dan, the 1125 series of bikes are some of the easiest soprtbikes on the body you can ride. I am living proof of that. I regularly make 200 mile rides and I could go much further. I am short but for the larger guys higher bars and lower foot pegs help a lot along with better seats. The greater H.P. is very controllable and if all the recalls have been done it should prove to be a great ride. Dealers do play a part in servicing if you are unable. A good one does matter. At my age this is one of the very best bikes I have ever ridden. Bob | ||

Th bike is comfortable by sportbike standards, but a standard or 'adventure' style bike will seem like a couch in comparison. The 1125R is the king of fools when it comes to comfort. In your position, I would keep saving and really think about what kind of riding I was going to use this bike for. | ||

Old body? Try 67! I love the 1125R, and also take 200 mile jaunts for breakfast or lunch. I added the Firebolt Custom seat, it's still firm, a little thicker, and a lot flatter, so it doesn't slide you forward in an anatomically incorrect way. I find the seating more comfortable than an upright position since your weight is spread out more on the saddle. Can you get a test ride on the 1125? BTW, I went into the HD dealer originally to look at a leftover 08 SuperGlide FXD, ended up on the 1125R, go figure. As to making a decision, you've got a hefty down payment, and if you can get financing from HD that you like, and you're confident in those jobs, I'd do it if I were in your shoes. You'd get the screamin' deal and get a lot of riding in this summer. My '08 has had no problems at all. Dealer did all the recalls and updates, now I just ride. Hey Dan, Here is my advice, worth what you paid for it!  1. Take a cold shower. 2. Don't buy the 1125R just now. 3. When you have the money in the bank, test ride the Uly and an 1125R and come decide which feels best without the pressure of time. 4. There is no shortage of 2008's and there is not going to be. Probably get a better deal on them after you got the money in the bank. | ||

Having ridden bikes for over 34 years from Japan/Italy the USA including a Firebolt I can say in all honesty that my 1125R is most satisfying bike I have ever owned, I hope I am not tempting fate when I admit that I haven't had the clutch leak yet and that I got rid of the standard silencer with its poorly designed outlets blowing condensates all over the rear brake in the UK winter and removed the active intake solenoid as soon as the bike was delivered. Would I buy an 1125R tomorrow? - A resounding yes with no issues |
