I ordered my hmf from motoworld online about two weeks ago and it just got here today. So, I took off from work early to come home and put it on. It was a little bit of a pain to install, for two reasons. 1) It was missing a clamp that took me an hour to find driving and calling around, and 2) The two pipes that slide onto the head pipes are spaced much tighter than the head pipes wanted to sit. It was a wrestling match to get it all slid together.

My first impression was, "wow, that is loud." It is pretty loud, but it has a real aggressive snarl to it and sounds absolutely wild at 10krpm.

My SOTP dyno says the bike is a little snappier. It wanted to pull the front wheel a little more easily in second, but that could be an effect of losing ten pounds or so from the bottom of the bike. I also have a K&N and have my AFV's locked at 115. I would guess it has a LITTLE more power, but I cant say for sure. Otherwise, it runs just as smooth as it did earlier in the week when it was completely stock. I didnt feel any dips in power, there was no hesitation, and no popping on decel.

I am having it run on the dyno on tuesday when my front brake is done. I didnt have the chance to do a "before" dyno, but I want to see where this is for HP and for AFR.

I am not sure how I feel about how loud it is, but the bike looks and runs wild. Im pretty pumped.

Well, I put on 100 miles with it tonight. On my way home, I thought "This thing isnt that loud, I better go back in and post that I overreacted and was just used to a bike that was too quiet."

Then I was letting the bike idle while I opened the garage door, and I had my lid set on the hood of my truck just behind the bike (as I often do) and the bike shook the truck enough to make my helmet slide off and onto the concrete.

On another note, my coolant temp showed 166 riding in 78 degree weather. Before, I was in the 180's so I think 115afv was a big jump to make. I changed it down to 108 and it seems to be a bit stronger. I might drop it to 105 before my dyno run on tuesday. I wanted to try and change it again and go on another test ride, but now that the bike is so freaking loud hammering on the gas REALLY feels like a crime.

Nice setup....i love my HMF setup also... i ran my AFV's locked at 115 they were at 105/105 stock i had mine dynoed and the a/f ratio looked good until 9k and above she was a bit lean. That is getting fixed while i'm deployed though

Thanks for the tip Schwerm. Stock was at 100/100. Now I am at 106/106 with a 4% boost above 8500. I also added 5% advance above 4000. Will see on tuesday how things worked out.

Well, the dyno charts showed i have a lot of work to do. My AFR was all over the place, starting out very lean from 3k-4.5k, then getting fat at about 8, then a little thinner, then fat again. When I say fat, I mean 13:1, and by lean I mean 14:1 or a little higher. I could see the power dips on the HP plot where it leaned out a bit. This tuning thing is not for everyone, and by everyone I might mean me.

My overall peak HP numbers were about the same as another stock 1125r on the same dyno. Its a superflo dyno, so the numbers are depressing, but I am tuning for good AFR and not so much big numbers.

I wouldn't call 13:1 fat. That's what you want for power. And yes with aftermarket pipes you can't just do a global AFV change and have it be correct for all the rpm ranges.

The 3-4.5 k rpm range needs a ton of fuel. It was my leanest spot as well with the D&D.

Tuning on your won without the tools is difficult. I ended up just asking for a ton of plots from the dyno guy. I then added fuel in different rpm/tps ranges by different percentages based on how far off my AFR were on the plot. I did this 3 times and ended up getting 13:1 across the board except for at cruise where I am about 14:1 - 14:5. It netted me 143 RWHP (from 127 stock). Not real scientific but it worked for me.

It probably would have taken me a lot more then 3 trip to the Dyno if it wasn't for the fact that I had played with tuning on Five other bikes (three of which were XB's).

Good luck but tuning definitely takes patience.

Well, I added a ton of fuel. I went to 107 AFV with WOT enrichment to 105. Both were originally 100. I added 8 percent up to 4500 on top of that, with other smaller percentages tapering up and down to adjust my AFR from my dyno plot. My test ride tonight felt great. I should get on the dyno some time next week to confirm and give me what I need to make a few minor adjustments. Numbers be damned, the bike feels great!

How rich does it have to be to foul plugs? That's my only concern at this point while playing with the AFVs. The rear plug is not an easy task to replace.

Fresno-
Well, I had mine "way too rich" in my opinion, but never fouled a plug over a few thousand miles. I tuned and never had a dyno run for a while...When I did finally get her on the dyno, I was running between 11:1 and 10:1 everywhere above 5K on the tach. Maybe I was just lucky, and I'm certainly not the expert on this subject, but I wanted to give you an example from my personal experience.
