At the first of last month I went to American Eagle HD to buy an 08’ Buell 1125r. I did just that and got it for a great price but it seems they put a spell on this bike because I have been back every single Saturday since. This past Saturday I went to a different dealership cuz I was getting a bad feeling about the one I bought the bike from. So far I have had one turn signal go out, both mirrors replaced, an oil leak from the filter’s cover, and I was told that the brake line recall was done. I found out this last Saturday that it was not done cuz the front line is still the same. I have also found out that they need to work on the gas over flow line. I had 120 miles on the tank of gas and it was still dripping out of the over flow line.

I changed the oil myself a few weeks ago and then I noticed that the plastic dip stick was leaking cuz it was stripped out. The Longhorn HD dealership is saying that they will fix everything to show me that they are so much better than the place I bought the bike from. All I can say is what did I get myself into? I had a Honda and never had one single problem and here I am now wasting a lot of my weekends just on this bike.

Thanks for letting me vent.

I guess I will add this too. I am on 2 wheels more than anything else. My truck is a 07’ and I have like 13,000 miles on it. So this “get out and ride” thing, I think I already do that. I will be riding right back to the dealership this Saturday also to get all the recalls and from what I just noticed the 05Z flash.

Simmer down... old TV line, sorry.

Many 08s dribble clutch fluid. Get the cover updated to a revB and turn the Pegasus side-ways.
edit<Empty it every month or so, like a catch can.>
A real fix is supposedly imminent.
BMC has been VERY pro-active with this bike, I see no reason for them to stop here.

Early blinkers had a high failure rate. New RevD blinkers will last.

I'll not comment on the mirrors, other than I replaced mine with Firebolt mirrors and ran the turn signals to the running lights.

The brake recall should have a new longer clamp holding the brake line closer to the fork tube.
If there's no damage to the steel braid, they aren't obligated to replace it.

Get her broken in and prepare to fall in love.
18.5k miles on mine.

Zack

Sorry to hear your brand new bike needed repeat visits.
It's ok to vent.

I hope you get next Saturday to do what you want. : )

Congrats on your new bike.

Question to dealers; Especially on these 08's that have been in stock for a year or more.

Why don't they go over each bike with a fine tooth comb now before the bikes are sold? Serious question.

So many here talk about all the fixes that have been and continue to roll out, maybe it would be a good idea to apply them before delivery.

Serious question, not trolling but no one should have a delivery experience like that. Go Ride and simmer down, it under warranty, are all nice, but not as nice as a bike that acts as expected.

I don't post in these type threads but this is the point of why myself and others are waiting to drop the dime, Were waiting for this simple madness to stop.

Just do it. None owners get in trouble for posting here so explain to me why do so few get the importance of this basic principle? Fix it before you hand the keys over? These stories could end tomorrow. America get serious!

Yank the franchises from repeat offenders. Let the dealers with brains get the sales.

As much as hate to admit it, I gotta agree with Brap. It's inexcusable to deliver a bike with out all the recalls done. I'd call Buell customer service if it were me and let them know this dealer is doing this.

Regarding the drips from the fuel vent, it's normal. The reroute (another recall they missed) will move said line to behind the passenger peg. I haven't noticed any drips yet, but it hasn't been that warm here yet either. Also, it does seem like as this thing breaks in it tends to run a few degrees cooler, which helps keep the fuel cooler and less dribbles out the vent. A little water wetter in the cooling system can help too.

I agree with Brap on this one as well. There is no reason 08 leftovers should not leave the showroom every bit as sorted out and prepared as 09's. They have the technology........

BMC policy is - a bike can be sold, but not delivered until Safety recalls are completed.

OMG - Brap actually said something I agree with. Yes bad dealers are in my opinion the biggest problem for the brand.

Zack,

Safety recalls being performed before delivery is taken is something I would assume to be law across the board. I think its the "updates" that are causing the most headaches in this case.

The OP referred to the brake recall as not being done.
That is a safety recall and HAS to be completed prior to delivery.

Yep its federal law that safety recalls have to be performed before delivery. This applies to all things as far as I know, including cars and toasters.

Bat - you need to realize that's it a fuel tank vent line, not an overflow tube. The fuel vapor travels up through it and condenses along the way, returning to a liquid state and dripping out the end a little.

The rest of your quandries seem to have been addressed. I'd let this new dealer make nice - seems like they're willing.

There are bad Honda dealers as well.

Concentrate on finding the good dealers and starve the bad ones out of business.

I can relate. I'm back in the shop AGAIN for the IC. This will be number three.

This time I'm at Cowboy HD instead of Central Texas HD. Cowboy seems to "get it", CT, not so much.

I bought my bike the first week of Feb and its been in the shop 50% to 60% of the time; clutch slave, speedo, brake line recall. I check it out of the shop for track days, then check it back in.

Once I finally get the bike sorted it will be a great bike, the sorting is proving to be a PITA.

I have to agree on pulling the bad dealers, HOWEVER, if that is done their wish is being fulfilled. I'm noticing that many dealers would just prefer the Buell line to "go away".

Court and a polite letter to Buell CS was very helpful in getting the factory to help, HOWEVER, the factory couldn't even get a hold of CTHD, the never picked up. I guess they screen their calls...

I suggested to Buell CS that a retro-fit kit be sent to the field to address common issues. If the factory was pro-active, instead of reactive it would be less expensive, dealer could sell the '08s without the huge discount, the customer would be happy and OUT of the shop. In the long run Buell would keep their current customers and win new ones.

I have to agree with Bat, while the Japanese dealers many not be good either, the bikes tend to be in the shop much less. I've had many Yamahas and a couple of Suzukis over the years and they were almost never in the shop, and this was back in the '80s.

Another weekend and no bike...

I had the 'REV C?' cover fitted to my bike last week after my REV B cover leaked almost straight away. I'll have to get some miles on it to see how it fares

It is all getting a little more funny day after day. You see it was a buddy of mine went and bout a Buell and told me about the deal he got. A week later I was there and I made sure I mentioned his name. well they said no problem we will send him $100 for the refer.. here we are a month later and I get something in the mail from the dealership that lies. They sent me a laser etched glass piece with my bike and the dealership in that back ground. On this it says “ custom made for Eryk (batbeyond)” and under the bike it has my vin number. I am like who in the heck wants to show off a vin number, they want you to put this on your desk and show the world that you have a bike and its real cuz it has a vin number? Well I asked my buddy if he got the same. No, he got a patch and a membership to a magazine and a HD pin. He also got a little card saying congrats on your purchase. The funny part is, on the second week of his ownership………. He was hit here at work in the parking lot. The company paid over $200,000 bucks for some company to design this parking lot and the week they finish it he gets hit entering it. His bike has been back at the dealership all this month and last month. They said they are waiting on the check from the insurance and yet the insurance says they have not gotten an estimate. This is all from American Eagle HD.

funny part is they have his bike and say that they cant start until they get the check and the insurance company says they have gotten no estimate to send a check for. this is the same dealership that is giving me the run around. so its not just me and the 1125r.

as for some one mentioning the fuel vent and will move said line to behind the passenger peg. well it is behind the foot peg but it is dripping daily. i can have 120 miles + on a tank of gas or even full and it still is dripping. all i know is they said they could fix that.

i am going to have to see if they can do one more thing and that is the fuel light. it comes on almost every time i turn the bike on. when i take off after a half mile it will go away. i have seen people write about the same thing so i hope its an easy fix.

thanks every one for all there in put.

bat,
is the bike on the sidestand when you turn on the ignition key? i think the sensor is on the r/h side and bike leans left on the sidestand. the ic automatically starts the low fuel mileage countdown when the light is illuminated which keeps the low fuel light on. i'm not positive of the distance that the low fuel odometer has to go with adequate fuel in the tank to shut off the light and lfo but i think it is less than a mile. in other words it may be a feature!
have fun(read the owner's manual)
