OK,
I realize I posted this in the thread I had started May 7th but for some reason it is still buried and I thought some folk might be interested. SOrry if I am wasting bandwidth.
Drummer is on. Sounds great, everyone at the shop was raving about it. My baseline dyno run with the '03 ECM flash was disappointing to say the least - 117HP and 66ft-lbs torque. No miles with the Drummer on but with no miles on it, the dyno showed exactly same numbers (OK, 1 HP less and 1 ft-lb more).
I plan to get some miles on then re-dyno with no other changes.

ECM flash - no matter what I said, the head of service insisted that the last flash was last November. So these numbers represent the flash ending in 03.

I definitely want to get the 05 flash and repeat the dyno run then apply a "Performance Flash Utility" before making a final dyno run.

That's all I have at the moment.

How do I convince the service guys that there is a later flash?

Thanks,
Paul

tell them that unless they hook the bike up to the digital tech. They will not be able to find the flash anywhere on H-D.net

If you want tell them to call Nate at Beartooth Harley-Davidson/Buell. (406)252.2888

I can explain it to them for ya.

Thanks Nate. Believe it or not, I told them exactly that but I was told that no, it would be in their computer first. I'll ask them to call you on Tuesday (too late today and service is off Sun and Mon).
Thanks again,
Paul

Please explain to me this "flash" thing. Is this something you have to do when you add a aftermarket pipe?

The 05Z flash is a factory ECM update for the 2008 1125R. Buell as a MFG is very big on customer service and there for has been providing rideability updates to the fuel injection system to make sure that the 2008 1125R meets the high expectations of their customers.

There are other non factory flashes availiable from third partys (they require the purchase of software and a USB to Serial cable) that would be more suited to aftermarket modifications.

So before and after dyno runs with the drummer show a 1hp loss? What were the temperatures for the dyno sessions? was it a lot warmer for the "after" dyno run?

2.5 hours between baseline run and post Drummer install, temperature between the runs was essentially the same. As mentioned, there was no "learning" time for the ECM with the Drummer on so there may be some HP and torque to be had once I have some miles on it. My plan is to re-dyno after I put some time on the bike but of course there will be different atmospheric conditions.

Paul, I've posted these runs of my bone stock '08 on the same Liberty Dyno before. The third reflash was done after run 4 right on Liberty's dyno. Your 117 peak HP is in line with my 118 HP on run 7 so don't feel too bad. Note the variations run to run. I'm not sure what caused that. Room temp was a near constant.

I haven't had a chance to dyno the 1125 with the Drummer yet. Everyone else who has done before and after runs seems to get at least +10 HP or so.

Steve

Blake - will see if I can get them and PM to you for posting.

Jerseyguy - did you have to do some arm-twisting to get hooked up to Digital Tech and download the latest ECM flash? Service advisor also insisted that there is no "600 mile service" and that first "service" is done at 1,000 miles. Not trying to be a PIA or a jerk - would like to have a good relationship with the dealership - sales, service and parts people but I do want my new "baby" cared for the right way.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
When I made the above runs, Chris ran the dyno and did the third flash update at the same time also. If I remember correctly, it was a Dyno shootout day and I did not have to pay for the runs. (I think some guy beat me with a 128 HP best run). I didn't have to beg anyone. I just got there early and asked Chris to do it. Chris has since moved from assistant service mgr. to parts mgr. Chris also emailed my run files to me which I viewed with Winpep7 (a free download).

I'm truly amazed that the system change made no difference. That is very, very contrary to all the other testing that has been done in multiple places. Who ran the Dyno for you and how many pulls did he do? What are your AFVs at now just out of curiosity? Mine are at 105/100.

I picked up the bike on Saturday and the place was jamming so I didn't really get a chance to speak with anyone about the dyno runs, who did them, how many and how they went.
I'll try to get a hold of them and as Blake suggested have him post them here.
Either way, I think it is worth mentioning that the after Drummer runs were done with no time for the ECM to "learn" after the Drummer was on. Truth be told, I asked only for a pre-Drummer Dyno run with the intention of putting the miles on then doing a post-Drummer dyno but before and after was done (again with the 03z flash) and that's all I have at the moment.

Will update all of this as I get more.

Paul

Had to post my impression, finally of Kevin's handiwork.
Ryan(Cataract2) rode up from the Springs and I got to see and hear his Drummer.

1) I was shocked at the (lack of) clearance to the rear wheel. Exit tips are no more than 1/8 inch from tire.
2) Craftsmanship, as expected was top tier. Forward part of system still looks "empty".
3) Sound - throaty, louder than I expected, a sound I could live with, guess my neighbors would get used to it. : )

Ryan seemed very happy with it.
I may buy Rocketray's from him if I can scrape up some cash...

With an 1/8" rear wheel clearance, how do you get tire warmers on it?

mine is more like 1/2. but i also have the preload at 2 in the rear. but these numbers are with no weight on the bike.

i was a little shocked when i first got it on. but with someone on it it grows to over a 1inch with me and im 140lbs anyways. but im not sure about the tire warmers, how thick are those?

Mine's about 3/8 inch clearance. There are slots to allow for some adjustment. I suggested to Kevin to weld the bracket on more to the rear to increase clearance.

Hmmmm...looked @ mine this morning, and by 'eyeball measurement' I've got between 3/4" to 1" of clearance.

I'll have to measure it tonight to see if I need my eyebealls re-calibrated.

When you do the install, there are slots for the two bolts that hold the can up. With everything loose, tap it forward as far as it will go, onto the mid-pipe and forward in the slots. Till it stops. Then tighten everything up, clamps, bolts, and right side rearset. Should be about fingers width of clearance.

On a related note, I got forced over a speed bump coming in to work the other day instead of going between them, pretty high bumps, taller than average.

WHAM! Knocked the crap out of the muffler, and when I got off, there was just a little spiral of yellow paint on the front of the can.

Thing is built like a brick house. But out of Stainless.

Not complaining! Mine has at least the clearance of the stocker.

Both incidents were purely due to me being a dumb@ss.

Just anecdotal evidence of the build quality, FWIW!
