I went to schedule an appointment at the local dealership today to schedule an appointment to have several things done. I need to have the front brake line recall done, the latest flash done, and yet another rear turn signal replaced.

First ... is there a "kit" associated with the front brake recall? The dealership was stating that they have not yet received a recall kit and cannot do the recall until Buell sends them the kits. Second, they state that there is only one part associated with the recall and they won't necessarily re-route the brake line as it is on the 09's and may leave it where it is ... is this true??? I thought the whole point of the recall was to move the brake line so that the front fender is not digging into the brake line.

Another thing is that the dealership is stating they have "never heard of" the Rev D turn signals nor have they heard of the newer flash ending in 05Z for the 08's. Why does it seem like every time I go to the dealership I'm educating them ... shouldn't it be the other way around? I like the guys at the service desk it just seems as though there is a breakdown in communication between Buell and the dealership ..... its very frustrating to say the least.

Needless to say it was pointless to schedule an appointment and they just told me to keep checking in every week until they have a recall kit ... I guess in the main time i'll just let the fender continue to wear on the brake line.

Helicon,

I had them move the brake line before the recall even came out. They can re-route the brake line right now, without any spare parts. When I had them do it, I just showed them an '09 and said "see how it is routed? I want mine to be routed like that". The run is actually shorter, so there is no need for a longer cable or anything. The only reason to replace the cable is if it has been worn through by rubbing on the fender or other parts. I would ask them to re-route it and then when the kits come in to replace the line if necessary.

The flash is in the Digitech II or whatever it is called. The only way to find it is to use the device, from what I understand. The new flash is not a recall or anything.

I hope this helps

Mike

I just took my 09 in for the first service and they told me they did the brake line recall on it. I am getting ready to go pick it now, but I didn't think that there was a re-call for the 09's

I had the recall. The only piece that is FOR SURE new is a silly clear plastic sheet, about 1x3 inches, applied to the fork (presumably to prevent scratching). The bracket that the brake line is routed through looks the same to my admittedly uneducated eye; it just looks like it's been rotated to route the line to the outside.

On 08's the bracket in the lower triple is different.

Fair enough. As I said, my eye is uneducated.

The modified bracket uses the same whole in the lower triple tree that the old bracket used. It just secures the line further to the outside than the original bracket. Take a closer look and compare the brake bracket to the clutch bracket and you'll see what I'm referring to.

On my bike, which I had them re-route the brake line prior to the recall coming out, all they did was flip the bracket over to the other side, so that the screw was on the right, instead of the OEM position with the screw on the left (facing the bike). If you look at the picture below, you will see that both brackets have the screw to the right as you face the bike. If you have an '08 and you look at the OEM setup, you will see that the screws for the brackets are both on the outside, with the cables running to the inside of the screws. Mine now has both cables running to the left of the screws in the bracket as you face the bike. I hope that makes sense.

Yes, that's what mine looks like. I just assumed they flipped the bracket, but I'm absolutely willing to believe it's a completely new, slightly different piece. The plastic sheet is about the same size, and in the same position, as your yellow bar code.

Spectrum,

Thanks! That is definitely a different bracket. I do not recall seeing that bracket on the '09 bikes, when I Was comparing how the line was routed. That would explain why both '08 and '09 bikes could get the recall. That really clears things up. Thanks, again Spectrum.

Spectrum, did they also re-route your brake line to the front or did they only put the new bracket on?
Did your dealership already have the kit in stock, or did they have to order it for you? Thanks for your help, by the way.

Yes they re-routed the brake line from inside the fork to outside the fork. They had to order the recall kit. I just had them order it and call me when it came in. Once it was in, I made an appointment and took it in for the work. It was at the dealership for less than an hour.

Got my bike back has the new bracket that is putting the line all the over by the pod. Plus the sticker that is already peeling off. They had one in stock at my dealer because I was only getting an oil change, when they called that it was ready they told me that they had done the recall also.

I asked the dealer if they needed to order one for me, as they have done in the past with the other recall kit, but they said they just had to wait for one to arrive.

Jason, actually my dealer called me and asked if I had it done somewhere else. They were calling and checking all the owners that had bought from their dealership because in their words, this is a potentially serious safety issue. They then asked if there was wear on the brake line because there are two kits. One that replaces the brake line if it's worn and one that just does the relocate. When I told them it had not be done and the brake line was not worn, they said they will order me a kit and call me when it was in. I got the call that it was in less than a week later.

Thank you Spectrum. Sounds like you have a pretty good dealer. I wish things could go that smoothly for me......

Helicon - come up and pay us a visit.
You won;t find a more Pro-Buell shop on the Front Range.
By the way, we are open every day of the week.

Zack, just out of curiosity, is your service department open on Sundays? Also, (i know this is a little off topic) I'm still waiting for a response from Court, but do you know if it is possible to get a replacement for one of the old rear turn signals before it stops working?

I would be using High Country HD on a regular basis if it weren't an hour and a half away. Travel time can become an issue when the bike needs to be dropped off.
