Well I own a 08r i bought from lake erie harley in ohio.I went down there today for the cr gear lock promotion.I asked the sale rep if i could sign up and test ride the cr and do the gear lock promo.He said you want a lock I said ya. He then had me fill the paperwork out and said heres your lock .I said what about the test ride . He said were not geared up for that part of the promotion.Isnt that shady!!! I almost want to complain to buell that not only was lake erie stingy about the lock but they deterred me from riding a cr.Maybe possible future sale .Im looking for a new buell dealer.I just think they want to keep there buells for sale and not with any miles on em. But why participate in promos and not let people ride??? | ||

Lots of dealers are weary of giving test rides, esp. someone who has purchased a bike so similar. Were you serious about buying a CR? If not, it's just a joyride. I don't blame them one bit for denying you a "test" ride. | ||

at least you can get a lock. im stuck over here in the sand box and i hear about these things and cant get one. | ||

My dealer does not allow a test ride unless you have proper gear like long sleeve shirt, long pants and ankle high shoes/boots. Otherwise you you can basically test ride anything they have, both Bull and HD lines. Makes sense to me. | ||

Too bad, that's a 30 year old mentality. The first time I rode my first H-D was after I paid for it. The whole reason I bought my first Buell was I rode it once and was insta-hooked. Virtually ANY bike on our floor is available to ride. Very few exceptions. Z | ||

The HD dealers I have dealt with are better about test rides than any other brand. You can just about forget test riding a Japanese bike around here. There are limited rides available at the Ducati/BMW dealer, mostly they just want you to ride the used bikes. If that dealer wouldn't let you ride, I'd do what you said and look for another dealer. | ||

There are many problems with test riding motorcycles- the biggest one being dealer liability. Number one issue- will the dealer's insurance cover customer test rides? Almost unequivocally the answer is going to be no. Having worked for all Big Four manufacturers, not one of the dealer's insurance company would allow it. The only way it was possible was if we had factory demo units, which were covered by the manufacturer's insurance policy. Another issue with test rides, which I have personally witnessed, is a customer who returns from a ride and agrees to buy the bike- then says "I don't want this one, go get a new one from the back". Most new bike purchasers do not want a unit that has been "test ridden". A dealer whose insurance won't cover it, and who does not have a demo unit, is taking too much personal risk to allow test rides of motorcycles. Prospective buyers need to understand this, and give the dealer a break. Test rides usually result in a sale, but about the only thing that a dealer will allow to come between them and a sale is personal liability- it's just not worth it. | ||

The dealer I use sets aside one model specifically for demo rides. I actually bought my R which was a demo bike. IMO if they have a sign that says "DEMO DAYS" they should let you ride it whether you have a similar bike or not. | ||

I did the test ride at Bumpas HD/Buell in Collierville Tn. They did not have a test bike setup and I expressed concerns about pulling a new bike from inventory for a demo, but they insisted. So they pulled the black bike out but it would not start, flat battery. The red CR started up and we went out on it. It ran fine and I was impressed with it. Then I was talking to the sales person, Peggy and saw a XR1200 go by. Peggy said that was their bike they just got it in and would I like to demo it? Well sure, so the demo guy, Jason rode the red CR and I rode the XR1200. This is the same red CR that I had just been on, it quite on Jason four times. Just died, possibly a low battery.
