From what I remember, someone looked at doing the Uly tail, but the mounting points were quite a bit off. Can't remember who, but I want to say the thread was maybe around the September-October timeframe of 2008.

I think it could be done, but probably not without some fabrication and welding.

I used the Givi E21 side bags. I like them because they're small - I didn't need anything huge for my needs. But what's also good is any of the other Monolock series bags will fit, so I can easily double my cargo capacity without any modification to the mounting brackets.

My mounting is similar to your "bolt a backpack onto the rear seat" idea, except I have a hard top case on top, and two sections that hang down the side to mount the side bags to. You can see it better if you follow the link I in my earlier post.

I used solid round bar because I had some real tight bends and a tube would have collapsed on itself. Mine is pretty heavy, but not too bad.

If you do not want to do lots of modification, there are some saddle bags available for the 1125R/CR

Mine just arrived last night. Haven't used them yet, but they seem to be of very good quality. They have no components that require permanent mounting...There is a strap or two that are held on by the passenger seat locking over them, and then another strap or two that hook to the passenger peg bracket.

IIRC they don't allow 2 up riding because of their location.

I have the Buell bags and like them a lot. They stay in place very well and are not to big on the bike. I used them and a tail bag and was very happy with the amount of gear that I could haul around. Best bang for the buck IMO.

A touring 1125R ? I've already done it. I was gonna get a XB12XT. But i was able to pick up a 08 1125r for $7800 with only 460 miles. So i had Rich at Richs' custom upolstery make me a custom gel touring seat with custom backrest($625). Added a set of uly pegs(lower by 1")($40). Got a zero gravity touring windscreen($90). Got rid of the stock bars & added a set of converti-bars with custom extended lines & har the upper triple tree shaved for more line clearance(bars-$350..everything else..about $900-11.5hrs in labor minus my discount).Saddle bags & tourpack ($500). Adding catylst racing composite racing lower fairing (probably $600 after everything is done). Also adding front & rear mounted cameras with dvr( 90 gig..about $1000 for the set up & install). Plus i'm also adding an aftermarket exhaust can..my mechanic & i still haven't decided which one would be best for my needs. Also i'm having a local machine shop make me a set of custom drop down rear pegs -about 2 1/2" farther down & 1 1/2" forward. Also i'm having a company down a cali make me a set of custom crash cage bars so i can mount forward pegs .haven't gotten to that yet, but it's on the list.

Already doin It!!
Have a great day. Keep the rubber down.

I had my deposit down for one of the original 1125R models in Wisconsin. But that's when I thought they used the same subframe as the Uly. I wanted an awesome replacement for my S3T.

Needless to say...I canceled the deposit and I'm still HAPPILY riding my 1998 S3T.

Pete:

Got any picts? What bags and top box did you use? Who fabbed the mounts?

I know at least XL1200r and myself are curious how you did yours. We finished ours about a year ago.

Guess I don't have the backrest or the cameras but I have a few other goodies:
HID headlights
Zumo 550
Passport 8500 X50
AmpliRider
Extra LED lighting in the rear and on the GIVI V35 bags
Kisan TailBlazar on all LED brake lights
PIAA 1100x Driving lights
PIAA H11 high beams
(just to mention a few not on your list)

Dennis:
I feel your pain, I had a 99' S3T and it had some "issues" and after 14 months and 24,000 miles I traded it in on an X1. I created my version of an 1125rt from my craving of another Buell Bagger (LOL)

Niel, No pics as of yet. Still haven't completed the project yet. The bags are the stock bags..they are awesome & look great. As for the tour pak ..i'm still workin on that.( but i'm told the hard bag is only about $200 or i can go with the stock tourbag which costs about the same).gots to talk again from another rider in another club. He's gonna get me "the hook-up" . The back rest is tiny & is interated with the rear seat cover, but it works great & keeps my fat ass from sliding off the bike when the front wheel picks up. as far as lighting is concerned i haven't felt the need to upgrade anything yet. Though i'll look into your mods & talk to my mechanic about them.

As far as getting rid of your S3T i know the deal, my other bike is a 2001 X1 with an unknown amount of miles-no speedo, just the tach-(proably close to 40,000 or 50,000 miles) i've mounted a S3T fairing to it , custom fabbed a set of hard/soft bags which i haven't finished yet or have built the mounting brackets yet. Got a custom stainless steel undertail. Spinner led brake light, corbin seat with gel insert. gutted stock exaust can-strait pipe with torque cones & anti-cop screen. Running pilot powers on flashy Pm wheels. also added a custom single ultra powerful arc lamp (comes with its own voltage regulator & ballast) basically when i turn it on it's like riding in daytime. i'm gonna remount it on the front fork when i put the motor back together in a couple of weeks.

As far as machine work & other custom work i get it all done at(or thru) Lynnwood HD/Buell in lynnwood Wa (10 miles North of Seattle). The Service manager..Doug Kershaw, is absolutely the best, he's the connsumate professional & is extremely knowledgeable. The Mechanics whom work at that shop are top notch. I will never take any bike i ever own anywhere else..even if i have to pack it up in my truck & drive it there. there is a huge amount of killer machine shops to go to ,plus my brother & i have enough tools & equipment to outfit a small bike shop.

Pete..goin riding tommorow..at least a few tanks of gas.

I just tool the muffler off and had it ceramic coated locally. I did do the core exchange with American Sport Bike for the headers. I actually had them both done while they had'em off for the 12K service.

I took my bike to the Isle of Mann TT last year; used the tank bag and cover from my old firebolt, Baglux kit good quality. Got some cheap panniers for the rest, sleeping bag etc on top. Did the job, you don't have to spend a fortune on kit.. First 1125R round the Island.

some of the mods sound interesting.my wife and i just came back from Tasmania(down under-under)we clocked up 2350miles in seven days going around tassies mountain roads. The 1125 had ventura 56litre rack plus throw over saddle bags plus buell tank bag.We had air hawk seats(each) and scala cordless intercom system.Engine is stock except for tailor made exhaust. For a sports bike these few extras made the 1125 into a pretty comfie tourer.i dialed the suspension up as i weigh 90+ and my wife 80+ kilos.Bike and roads were sensational. No way could a jap4 could have done Tasmania with such relative comfort and speed.
