I have an 08 1125R and my younger brother just bought an 09 1125R. I thought that the bikes were pretty much identical until I was showing him things about the bike. At first glance the display looked the same as mine but when I turned the bike on noticed that the display was set up differently. The 09 had gear indication and voltage display. Can anyone tell me if my 08 could be set up to do the same thing(gear indication and voltage reading)? These seem to be useful tools at times and would be nice to have.

If you want the gear indicator and voltage, you have to get an 09 IC

Is the replacing the IC just a quick swap plug and play?

When you plug it in, a countdown timer in the top left starts running.
After 30 minutes, the IC and ECM "marry" and will only work with each other.
I have an 08 with an 09 IC, gear and voltmeter work.

NEVER buy a used IC or ECM, it's a lock without a key.

Also, if you have the usual battery-drain problem, you can get an entirely new cluster.

I haven't noticed the battery drain problem although if I don't ride my bike for a couple of days I stick it on the battery tender. Could be the reason that I don't know if it has a drain problem or not. Was a good suggestion though. Thanks for the post.

My 08 typically shows the red battery light within 30 seconds of turning the key on. It doesn't matter how far or fast I ride, it's every day.

My 09 cluster is due to ship 4/29.
