I painted mine with high heat grill paint, let it set for 2 days and a mile down the road it started melting on my jeans. So i'm done messing with that, figured i'd just get an 09 one that already comes black..

Odd, mine hasn't done that.
1800 degree Bar-B-Q paint, flat black.

I DID take mine off and mirror-polish the inside.
That made a HUGE difference, the heat shield is hot, but I can touch it after riding and not leave skin behind...

I got the ceramic coated one from American Sport Bike and never thought about it again. Guess that means it works ;+}. Al may have it in black by now.

The 08 silver heat shield is S0175.AMA.
The 09 black heat shield is S0175.2AMA.

I put the 09 heat sheild on mine as it was less expensive than having ceramic coated.
