Is this under warranty?My rotor pulses bad .I got rid of the organic pad and went with sbc fronts and rears.Before the changeover I had little deposits on my rotor .I scotchbrite cleaned them off and installed the sbc sintered pads .But after 250 miles the r still pulses horribly.She has 6000 miles on her? Its been doing this slightly from the day I bought her but now its way worse. | ||

I had my bike in for service, described a pulsing feeling in my bars under braking. Got the call from the dealership that they were replacing both my rotor and pads... I have an '08 and was all covered under the warranty as a failed item. | ||

Pads are considered a wearable item, so those typically wouldn't get warrantied. A rotor, however, is expected to last a good while. And while replacing a rotor, good practice is to replace the pads as well, so you get both. It can't hurt to ask. | ||

I had mine in at Gainesville H-D/Buell for warranty work on the rear rocker box. Without asking, they also replaced the front rotor/pads for warpage under warranty. | ||

Your rotor isn't warped, its got a build up of deposits from the brake pad material. Do not use your front brake to hold the bike when stopped, use the rear instead. | ||

my dealer,in Melb Australia noted my concerns about heat spotting on my 08's first service.They then replaced front rotor and pads on warranty on subsequent rear brake service(no return of pedal-fixed under warranty also).Pulsing is no longer,i have heard the rotors can't handle the power/swept area of 8 piston caliper. | ||

I would check that the rotor is able to float at the 6 attachment points. You should be able to apply pressure with your thumbs and check if the rotor deflects and springs back freely, if it hangs up at any point you have found the cause of the warped feel. Check to see that the drive bushings are not worn, when worn they tend to rotate and the drive bushings corners bind the rotor causing a non float condition as well. If the bushings are not worn you can use a soapy water mix and a brush to clean at the fastening points. Once clean check again that the rotor floats freely. | ||

Do not use your front brake to hold the bike when stopped, use the rear instead. Just out of curiosity: how often do you remove deposits from your car's front rotors? I got the impression, that it's very common to hold a car with all brakes applied. There must be millions of cars building up deposits then. | ||

Some of the rotors do warp. It's not always pad deposit build up. The one on my old Uly warped. It was measured for runout by me, verified and replaced by the dealer. My Uly is the only bike I've had that ever warped a rotor. | ||

Rotax2 is correct, in at least all of the Buell rotors I've seen. I even asked about this while at Glendale Harley a while back to verify..about the rotors on their race bikes. They are heat spots that cannot be removed. The aftermarket rotors are a little thicker and don't seem to heat spot so easily. Nothing to do with pad material...! Warpage is a possibility...but unless you are very hard on the brakes and then hit them with water from garden hose while still blue or red hot...it's a low possibility. Mike | ||

My dealer, Bumpus HD, replaced both my brakes and rotor under warranty. I believe the pad material has more to do with the problem than anything. I've run Lyndall's since 1000 miles with no return of the problem. |
