Hello all,
Had my bike on the lift today, and my machinist buddy thought the forks looked like the left was lower than the right.

So we measured it, sure enough... 39thou higher!, right side.

Might not sound like much, but it could wear tires funny.
worth checking... I only have 1300 miles, so I'm sure it came that way...:-(

Yes the left fork is longer, it was designed that way.

My XB is like that too. I didn't go into details as I don't want to spread misinformation. I assume its related to having the single big ass brake rotor. : )

That's why Pit Bull forklift stands won't work on Buells- you need a newfront stand or a forklift with a converter (and a #2 pin).

Most lower fork legs are built that way. At least for the last 15 or 20 years.
Yamaha's, Kawasaki's, I know for sure.
No idea why.

The stands will work....they just won't work with the wheel straight.

The one side is longer because that's where the pinch bolts are to hold the axle in place.

so the fact that the top of the "tube" sticks out of the top of the "housing" 39 thou more than the other one is suppose to be that way?
Sorry to go on about this, but 39 thou more?? That's some precise stuff...

Is that in the service manual or anything?
I'm not arguing, just curious. Want it to be correct...

Thanks

The forks should be the same height above the top of the triple clamp, that is what the alignment lines are for, if they are not, you should adjust them so they are.

I thought you meant on the bottom end. Up top, they should should be even above the triple.

Unless you have removed them, there is a "snap ring" that keeps both of the upper forks from sliding through the top triple clamp.
