Hey y'all, I don know If anyone else isn't happy with the wattage of their headlights, I know I'm not, I'm wondering if anyone has done research on bulbs. As we all know buell did it again and put the odd number bulb onto the bike, that H8,isn'tdoikf it for me, was wondering if anyone has tried putting in H9 or 11's on? | ||

Do you have the angle of the light adjusted? Mine was completely useless on low beam when I got it. ? Is there an adjustment on the R's? Rob | ||

I dont remember the details but about this time last year a bunch of us changed the low beam lamps to a higher wattage but the socket had to be dremmeled to fit into the factory receptacle. If I can find it in the archives I will bring it here. | ||

I did hids on mine, never use hi beams now. alright my iPod touch hates me. I contacted starrotors and they set me up a kit (Message edited by 01xjbuell on March 26, 2009) | ||

I bought a 120.00 set of HIDs off ebay last year. Put them in after I got home from Homecoming. Wish I'd gotten the smaller igniter set, but managed to stuff the big ones under the fairing bottom and zip-tied them to the fairing support. Not a bad install, wired them straight in without a relay. By the time the fuel-rail pumps up, they are warmed up and don't mind a re-start. Excellent lighting, I HIGHLY recommend the upgrade if you ride at night. Z | ||

Anything above 5000k actually produces less visible light. At 8000k you are probably down to around 2000 lumens versus 3200 lumens at 4500k or 3000 lumens at 5000k. Heck if you are looking for show instead of go, why not 10,000k? As far as install it's pretty straight forward with a little grinding to make the "H8" fit. Most of the aftermarket suppliers supply the same H11 base for H8 even though the tabs are slightly different. A few mins with a Dremmel fixes the difference. DO NOT go with H9 since the focus will be different and that is CRITICAL. Neil S. | ||

Damn you just cant have the best of both worlds i think ill have to go with the 6000k. Can i replace my high beams and leave the low beams stock or should i replace the lows and keep my stock high beams. Thanks | ||

Do your low beams , the lows will be ALOT of light , and you'll still have the lows for "flashing" at traffic if need be , HIDS are too slow to warm up to use if you need to use them for that purpose IMO | ||

yea but most of my night driving is with the high beams. Shouldnt i do high beams because my goal is to see farther ahead? | ||

You will be amazed at how much more light is produced with the HID. Unless you are severely abusing the speedlimit, the HID low beams will work (that's coming from someone that has HID lows and PIAA 1100X for driving lights because of all the twisties and hills I encounter everyday). | ||

With the slim ballasts you can set them right on top of the center of the headlight housing. Somewhere I have posted those picts. Anyway this will give you an idea:  More than enough info, I hope. There are three main advantages to installing an HID system in your vehicle. 1) An HID bulb produces roughly 3 times more lumens than a halogen bulb. 2) HID bulbs consume 30% less power than halogen bulbs. 3) With no filament to vibrate and fatigue, HID bulbs last roughly 10 times longer than halogen bulbs. From what I have read, visible light is reduced as color temp goes up, see below. Color Temperature: 4300k Lumen output: 3200 Visible lumens Purpose: 4300k bulbs are traditionally used in headlight applications but can be used as auxiliary lights in foglight applications. The 4300k color temperature matches the white color temperature in vehicles that come with factory HID systems. Special note: 4300k bulbs emit the maximum light output possible from HID type bulbs. Higher color temperatures emit fewer lumens. Color Temperature: 6000k Lumen output: 2800 Visible lumens Purpose: 6000k bulbs are traditionally used in headlight applications but can be used as auxiliary lights in foglight applications. Special note: All color temperatures emit the same number of lumens but remember, the higher the color temperature, the darker the color produced. This progressive darkening of the light with higher color temperatures results in fewer visible lumens on a dark surface. A 6000k bulb will emit roughly 12% less visible light than a 4300k bulb. Moisture is not an issue for the ballast or igniters. Besides, not much rain gets there. Neil S. | ||
