Anyone ridden both the Speed Triple and the CR and have an opinion about them? I've seen only one comparo (on motorcycle.com)between the two. My brother has a Speed triple (that engine is phenomenal) so I've spent numerous miles aboard it and I have an 1125R so I can more or less compare the two but I'd love to hear other's thoughts. These bikes seem like brothers separated at birth. Both of them would steal your lunch money and leave you locked in your locker with a wedgie.

Good question!

Speed 3
- Torquey, smooth, softer suspension, bars are wider so it gives you a "tiller" splay to your hands compared to the CR (with after market Buell bar kit). Both need to be maintained at the same intervals, but the 12K service (valves) should be cheaper on the S3. Lots of after market (Triumph and otherwise) stuff for it.

CR
- has the motor all over the S3 (but I have the "learned" ECU and Drummer set up). The CR hammers out the power- which is cool if you like that feel to the power delivery.
Suspension is "harder" as a generic statement on the CR. The CR is put together "tighter" meaning the fit and finish is better in my opinion.



Both bikes wheelie like nobody's business. Both will embarrass sportbikes at a track day- given a rider who can get around a track well. Both bikes sound really cool with a pipe on them. Both bikes have an air of "trickness" to them, S3 with single sided swing arm and the CR with the ZTL brakes, fuel in frame, etc

Took him at both lights up to ~100 when we both backed off.

Speed Triple is nice and comfortable, heavier and longer. More like a standard.

The CR is much higher performance in every sporting way, stronger brakes, tighter suspension, more power, more lean angle, better handling.

Depends whether you want a sport bike or a standard.

Anyone know why Triumph doesn't bore out the Triple engine to 1196 and make a superbike to compete with the likes of the RC8, 1098, and 1125r?
