Eslick 2nd fastest in Basic qualifying this morning:

http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=3 5757

Looks like Danny And Bostrom are 0.7 - 1.0 sec. ahead of the rest of the field.

Superpole Qualifying this evening.
Go Danny!

I try not to get too worked up, but I can't help it now. C'mon Danny put that thing on the pole. Now how cool would that be?

Wow! When a factory rider is interested in seeing what a privateer Buell is doing, that's OUTSTANDING!!

I think I might like the new AMA racing. : )

Asked for his thoughts about SuperPole, Bostrom said, “It’s going to be tough. I’ll be riding the big bike [American Superbike YZF-R1] all day, so I’ll be coming off the big bike and will have to go out on the little bike without any practice. The most interesting part is seeing what that Buell does.”

I'm positively giddy I tell ya!

YOu are spot on. even though lots of the factory people were not happy at breaking up the status quo, I can't help to think it must be nice to get some new blood in the paddock. IMO, that quote from BBoz is some proof of that.

Are you guys that delusional? How could you even post this.
The Buell is racing against 600cc bikes.
WTF!

Hey bright spark, Buell is getting more exposure in a couple days of practice and qualifying that it has in years of racing on the lesser circuits. THERE COULDN'T BE A BETTER TIME OR PLACE TO PAY CONTINGENCY MONEY.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I could ALMOST understand the XBRR running against 600s, but WTF with the 1125R in that class???

If he DOESN'T win, then people are going to assume the bike REALLY sucks. If he DOES win, people will say "well what do you expect running an 1100 against 600s??"

No WAY Buell can come out of this looking good.

I gotta agree with Clark. While I'm stoked that Elsick is having a killer week; don't get me wrong but is the 11 so slow that it needs 2X the displacement to run with an R6???? Hummm....

. . . and if those Ducati 848's don't crack the top 60, that must mean they really suck.

Piece of crap Ducati's can't even compete with bikes with 250 cc less displacement.

. . . and those Aprilias, they're almost as much displacement as the Buells, but back in the pack. . .

Aprilias must suck too.

Approved bikes for Daytona SportBike: Buell 1125R
Honda CBR600RR
Honda CBR600RR ABS
Kawasaki ZX-6R
Suzuki GSX-R600
Yamaha YZF-R6
Aprilia RSV1000R
Aprilia RSV1000R Factory
Triumph Daytona 675
Ducati 848

The rules on weights:
3.2 Weight
a. Minimum weight:
Inline 4 cylinders 365lbs. 3 cylinders 375 lbs. 2 cylinders 385lbs.

Looking at the morning session results for qualifying, I'd say they're fairly even in regards to HP vs. Weight, which was part of the stated goal of DMG. More bikes involved in racing, like us 'normal' folk ride & buy.

I'm ok with an 1125R dicing it up with 600s, a 675, an 848 and a 1000.

I'm not concerned with the spec sheet racers peering down their nose at me either.

That bike belongs in the Superbike class with the 1098.

They race the 1125R in Canadian Superbike.

>>>>>THERE COULDN'T BE A BETTER TIME OR PLACE TO PAY CONTINGENCY MONEY.

We go through this silly displacement issue every year . . . it's nice to know that Buell is getting so much attention.

The discussion generally gets ended by Ducati people who get pissed and storm off.

I generally bow out by reminding folks that my Ford F-150 has 84.2% more displacement than and Indy 500 car (183.07 cubic inches) and therefore should be capable of roughly 390 MPH using similar logic . . . I'm going to sue Ford. . . . have fun!

: )

GO BUELL RACING

I knew it wouldn't be long before somebody jumped on a Ducati comment.

Pegram finish 4th for the season on an 848 last year.

The 848 should be in that class. The 1125's should be in the Superbike class.

If the 1125 can run with the 1098 and others, as many have said, then put it in there with them and let's see what it can do.

Obviously, when a guy who rides a Uly (and doesn't own an 1125) chimes in on road racing, he should be totally ignored!

Ducatisi have a fair point. Why isn't Buell getting better performance from the engine.
Clearly, the relatively short gearing is an issue and of course the HORRIBLE FUEL INJECTION SPARK MAP/TIMING/SPRAY.

It's the 2nd year of racing a TOTALLY NEW BIKE.

I can understand the opinion of 'It should be racing against the 1098 in Superbike' thought, but when you dig through the rules, is that even a close approximation of being a 'level' playing field? IMO, no. If it was against a STOCK 1098 (not an S, not an R, not an 1198), it would be comparable. I don't see any STOCK 1098 bikes in the lineup this year. Heck, I'd even give you a 1098S vs. an 1125R w/ Buell racing muffler & ecm as being 'level', but I don't see any 1098S bikes in the lineup either.

Why race Superbike when you KNOW it is underpowered in it's current configuration against the other bikes you'll be racing?

So, get bagged on because it's 'only' racing against 600's, or get bagged on because it can't be competitive in STOCK form against the liter bikes?

Seems you can't please some people ANY of the time.

Myself, I'll be watching tomorrow night & cheering on the Buell riders & teams. No skin off my nose what a spec sheet racer says, win or lose.

I think the real point people have to realize is displacement is one variable, but a much bigger variable is MONEY.

The top teams have enough money to develop exotic bikes (that look a lot like the much less expensive bikes they are based on)and hire top riders that will never be challenged by the also-rans. And the top teams get the most sponsors and get more money . . . and AMA racing becomes the boring mess it has been for the past 10 years.

In yesterday morning's practice, there were two GSX -R600's running under 1:50 . . . and four running over 2:00.

Yet they all had the exact same displacement. . .

Buell isn't like BMW. They can't just throw bazillions of dollars at a racing program. They need to build from the ground up and AMA Sportbike offers a perfect opportunity to build professional racing programs against top talent. RMR is jumping at the opportunity and I'm sure, if things go well, someday we'll see RMR and maybe other Buell teams racing in Superbike.

For now, we have Shawn Higbee and Steve Crevier fighting the good fight against the other Superbikes, but until there are more Buells on podiums (such as in AMA Sportbike) they've got to operate with very little sponsorship money and can't really compete against the top teams.

I thought Buell's passion an close nit team was worth something...until they didn't know what a spark map was.

In MotoGP, the small company like Ducati has won a championship vs. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki.

Is it too much to ask that Buell be mildly competitive in AMA superbike? They have a foreign engine. If Drummer can get 15 more hp and XB9 can get another 15, why can't the FACTORY do its part?

I'll throw my two cents worth of gasoline onto this fire...

What defines a "superbike" and does the 1125R even meet the requirements? I don't mean the race specs- I'm talking about using the moniker "superbike" for bikes sold in showrooms... do they have to earn this title?

It would be interesting to see how quickly Ducati would get out of Moto-GP and WSBK if the factory was really paying all the bills.

In the world of racing, sponsorship dollars are a wonderful thing.

. . . and in the world of getting sponsorship dollars, the name "Ducati" is a wonderful thing.

Hey Clark, now you are being plain rude and sarcastic. You also sound pretty ignorant to me. I assume you own an 1125r? If so, why don't you take the time to update your profile.

Then maybe you should GTFO.

Not that your keyboard vomit has any content worth responding to anyway.

Get a clue.

Until your out there beating the pants off 1125S on a 600 I4 In AMA events, I

Of course I own an 1125R, that's why I'm in
this section of the forum.

Elvis, you make a good point. I'm not saying Buell should be at the world level yet. Probably not even AMA Superbike, yet. Should a liquid cooled vtwin rated 146 at the crank, stock be dicing it up with 600cc bikes?
