Ok, before I start off with this one...

Background...

I have a horsepower addiction. And it all started when my father and I got our hands on a 1987 Buick Grand National. I now own the car, any don't drive it daily, but it sits in my garage and awaits beautiful spring/summer sundays and the occasional track day.

I bought a 2005 Silverado SS to drive daily. I love the looks of the truck, but soon missed the feel and sound of a turbocharged vehicle... so I slapped a STS remote mounted turbocharger on it, complete with front mounted intercooler, methanol injection, and full fuel system upgrades, and I tune it with EFI Live.

I buy this 2008 1125r to ride for fun in the summer and fall in lust with it. And being it winter time. It sits quietly in the garage, stabled next to the GN, and SS...

I took it out on a fair weather day here recently and eased her around town and just loved it even more. But she had a sob story to tell when I got her back home.

Apparently she is upset because the other kids in the stable have turbochargers and she doesn't. I tried telling her that even though she couldn't take the GN in a straight line, as it does wheelies too, that she'd take it in a corner any day. That didn't work.

I told her that she could out corner AND out run the SS by at least 2 seconds in the 1/4 mile and that wasn't good enough for her either.

So the only solution... she is demanding that I find her a turbocharger.

Any ideas? She won't be happy until I let her know what I have come up with.

*Disclaimer* Geforce is sane, his superbike and toys do not actually speak to him, nor does he have conversations with them. He does however have an obsession with horsepower...

Anyone ever thought about this? Seriously even if it was the smallest of turbos, I'd be happy with just the sound of boost and the spin of the exhaust wheel at idle. I guess I could rig up a wheel to spin behind my D&D. LOL

Have a great weekend BadWeb!

I have a few pics up online.

The Buell is plenty fast, and my intent wouldn't be to turn it into a 1/4 mile bike, the wheel base is too short and I like corners too much now. BUT... can you imagine the sound of an 1125r under boost? Eeeeeek!!!!

Great post.
I bought a 87 GN new, had it for 4 years but no longer have it. Also have had 2 1970 GS455's along with many other muscle cars. My buddy has a Silverado SS with the same STS set up, but doesn't have the methanol hooked up. You can hear his turbo spool up a few blocks away since it's not buried under the hood.

Can't help with your 1125R turbo fix, but I hope you figure something out because I would like to see it happen.

FWIW...and don't repeat this...but great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mount a turbo within the rear/under/swingarm area. SINGLE exhaust exit on the RH side, cool...and quiet until boost hits full song! What about a wastegate/?/YOU do know you gotta have it!?

Upgrade to 09 electrical charging, injectors/additional injector driver's with additional injectors and fuel supply mods...damn, what about ign retard...you'll have it if you read right(!) and then fabricate with stock 02's downstream and forget closed loop and also add a dual wideband and datalogger...

Is that enough info? I hope enuff for a start; )

Figure in a electical/small oil sump pump and then plumb back to a modified oil fill plug area with....?

Four pounds of boost is capable on an otherwise stock 1125. EASY...and it will be a RIDER! ; )

Hey Dris! What do YOU think?! : )

Custom tuning/remaps are obviously part of the equation but this one IS easily, DOABLE!

HAVE FUN and keep us all posted! mm OUT!

I got some sketches already... the wastegate would be tricky... HOWEVER... I have seen electronic wastegates that are fairly simple to manage with a MAP sensor. The tuning, electrical upgrades and wiring aren't as scary to me as the major hurdles...

1. Turbo Type/Pitch/Size and Location - So many choices.
2. Oiling - Again, choices. Who needs oil anyways!?! lol
3. Wastegate, O2 Sweet Spots, and Exhaust.

If I can nail #1... I can start to figure out #2 and #3. Therein lies the compromises.

Time to look for turbos.

Call Turbonetics...

Be ready to torture your cc but they will give you the correct A/R ratios /data on ALL levels relevant to the end goal of max hp/application, ect.

$3500.00, if you do much of the work yourself will yield at least a 35% (+6psi) increase over stock and then some! mm

Oh, and don't forget ign retard, fueling alter along with the addition of an aux'lly fueling system-electronics!

AFTER ALL...NONE of us with to read/hear of another wounded helicon based upon lack of proven information.

Tell your friend to chime in for sure. Mainly I was just curious to see if anyone had already started a Turbo 25r project.

Prices... I've bought from T-netics before, good group of guys who certainly know there stuff, this turbo would need to be ball bearing for sure, and variable pitch I would think. SO it's gonna be costly.

With all this in mind...

STEP REVISION:

1. Research Possible Sponsors. $$$
2. Turbo Type/Pitch/Size and Location
3. Oiling
4. Wastegate, O2 Sweet Spots, and Exhaust.

If all else fails, I'll at least have a good idea, and a sweet day dream for work when I get bored.

Well you are in luck as you don't need a ball bearing turbo so more choices. Garrett is a good choice, you will need a way to boost fuel pressure with boost--boost referenced fuel pressure regulator-- and some way to add fuel whil boosting-- we used a Tuneboy fueler on the Gix 750 turbo. So exhaust plumbing, hang turbo high enough so oil drains to sump, sealed plenum, wastegate--internal or external, both work well. If you keep stock compression you will need to limit boost or look at intercooler.

Turbo.....Cool....

Some guys have been using the Garrett GT12 turbo on some Can-Am renegade/outlander ATVs. Those ATV are 800cc Rotax V Twins, I believe. Looking at the HP and engine size application from Garrett, either the GT1241 or GT1544 are the best options.

The guys at Hillbilly motors put a turbo on an XB, which I know is different, but the general set up may give some idea of how to configure it. They have some really good pictures on their website.

Just my thoughts

Mike
