250 miles

Bike got stronger (over Jardine)

Per conversation with Pridayr- I removed the air box cover, which I reluctantly did-

NO ISSUES- bike pulls even harder!

AF values front = 130

AR rear 110

Bike really likes the changes

REF

AF values with Jardine never went over 105 front or rear ever

am I wrong to ask if anyone thinks it's a bad thing that the front cylinder wants 20% more fuel than the rear?

Maybe they keep the rear cyl fat for cooling cause it might run warmer the the front !

To me it shows a change in the fluid dynamics (flow) vs stock; the front being affected 20% more than the rear. Is this good or bad or indifferent? But what do I know...

Thedavyboy, I don't think there's much difference in running temperature front to rear on a liquid cooled engine.

I agree that is interesting, but with the 2 into 1 structure, I wonder how that could be. Maybe with the resistance of the stock piece, the flow characteristics of the headers are equal, but with lower resistance some differences surface?

To expand on my previous statement, what the AFV adjusts for is O2 feedback data collected in the closed loop learn (CLL) region of the maps, which is a relatively small region; and, if it is lean in open loop, it will also adjust(slower)for this condition.

Without some A/F ratio analysis of all the used cells and regions we really don't know what is going on other than we are feeding more fuel to it as a whole.. My guess is you will have some rich areas and some lean areas now that the fluid dynamics has been changed. I'd love to see some data logging to get the true picture.

A change in back pressure wave pulse timing (or lack thereof) could be effecting the front more than the rear.......

140 is as far as it is set to allow (stock)

75-140 is the min/max range

When I had the Inner Airbox pulled out, I was clocking about 27 MPG on my commute.

I dont mean to thread jack but i got my jardine slip on today would it hurt if i took of my airbox cover at the same time or should i let the bike learn the afv with the pipe and then take off the cover. I just dont want to overwhelm the computer and damage before it can adjust the afv to the changes made. Thanks

I feel better now, my average over 5,000 kms is 37 mpg (measured as 6.4 L / 100 kms).

Finally, AFV's. Thank you for the information.

Please monitor it and post any updates for all of us to learn by.

FWIW, previous testing with many other after market pipes/test examples (on stock 08R's only) has reflected a max @ 115.5 as the corrected AFV readout and the majority are on the forward cylinder.

I don't remember anyone posting or communicating an AFV of more than 115.5%, given a stock 08, all feedback enabled...no matter the mods? Any takers? This might be a first! : )

09's, by the way, prove to "adapt" a little better. 110%+, All Stock and @ sea level~1000' altitude. What are we missing?

At or near this (115.5%) AFV zone (on 08'/ Factory ECU flashes/take your pick/with o2 feedback enabled-functioning) proved too lean overall but without individual primary exhaust feedback data on the majority (questioned and/or communicated with)...too many remain anyone's best guess.

Exhaust samples taken after the merge or with narrow bands are not credible to compare...that is why the sponsored tuners' herein are switching to dual wide bands. Read archives.

It is too bad that this subject was not further developed with individual wide band/other equipment feedback so that all the information added up to more than is of current. Too many questions.

I am not trying to diss "this" pipe, nor the developers of it.

I am only posting another side of the coin for all to consider.

The facts do not add up thus far.

No two 11's have shown exactly the same response to mods related to intake and exhaust unless feedback was disabled.

I repeat, monitor any changes and again, sample BOTH cylinder's A/F ratio with a wide band or an exhaust gas analyzer before calling all a~ok.

Sticking a 5~Gas Analyzer OR wide band up the tail of the end/mixed/exhausted sample will not give you any credible information.

Hope this helps more than it hurts and please only flame the $hit out of this post with proof to support such. mm

"This" example was testing/prior to release/on an 08. How does it compare?

Update to my update

Last evening initial run after air box lid removal yielded (I LIED IN original post) 128.5 front and 110 rear.
Air Temperature was 50F


Went out for a lunch time ride and put about 100 miles on "new configuration" meaning Drummer + no airbox lid.

AF value now 121.5 front and 105 rear.
Air temperature was 70F

Bike still real strong - 2nd gear power wheelies (no tug at all on bars) and 3rd gear power wheelies (tug on bar)
