Wanted to throw this out for all of you pros.

I took my bike in for what I think is the 3rd reflash. Part no. M3HUS02Y. The dealer couldn't get it "to take". Said they would get online with whoever and see if they could do it that way or possibly get a new ECM and update it. Because I was short on time, I said I'd bring it back when I could.

A little info on my bike before I ask my questions. Except for disconnecting the solenoid, the bike is how it came from the dealership. It stumbles a little below 3K but I don't ride it much in that range. A good bit of the original stumble went away when I de-noided it. Above 3K it runs excellent. My gas mileage stays between 35 and 45 but has gone up in the 50's. I don't know about the AFV stuff, haven't messed with that yet.

My question is this. Does the 3rd reflash make so much of a difference that I'm going to kick myself for waiting or will I not notice much? Is there any reason to not get the 3rd flash? I've seen as many posts on here that were good as bad dealing with this flash. Even though my dealership is very Buell friendly, I'm kind of wary taking my bike in because I feel like they just aren't that experienced with Buells and I don't want them experimenting on my bike.

It might be that I've gotten so used to the stumble and don't notice it. Anyhoo, let me know what you think.

Thanks Mike

I'd suggest getting it for the improved fuel economy alone. The smoothness and reduced heat are just extra perks in my mind.

How much does the mpg increase?

Mine went from typically 31-33 to typically 38-41. Doesn't sound all that significant until you figure the extra range of 20-40 miles before hitting low fuel light.

That's a good bit in my book. Thanks for the info.

WOW! I cant believe you are getting 35-45 with your current flash. Those are numbers more represented by the third flash.

Yeah, I ride pretty easy most of the time. Believe it or not a lot of the roughness went away the second that I disconnected the solenoid. It felt like it instantly had more power and smoothness. S.O.M.P. dyno used for testing of course.

Does anyone else have input on this reflash issue?

That's not possible. The only thing that the solenoid does is partially shut the butterflies temporarily under very specific circumstances, solely for noise emissions. I doesn't affect riding conditions outside of the specific riding condition that triggers the solenoid.

I agree that it shouldn't be possible. I made no other changes when I disconnected the noid. It just instantly ran better throughout the rpm range. Can't explain it and don't really care 'cause it runs fine.

I also have to give a special thanks to Fresnobuell and his psychic abilities. He knew exactly what was going on with my bike and wasn't even there.... Wow.

I said the same thing when I removed mine...

...and got lots of the same types of responses.

LMAO!!! At least there are two of us that have lost our minds!

It can be possible as a result of the 'noid removal for other 'improvements.'

Better throttle response being one due to the removal of the 'noid 'interference.' A few folks have had 'sticky' throttle cables, which the 'noid cable was not improving. Removal of the 'noid may help some of that on particular bikes.

Remember, some folks were only getting a max of 80% of throttle when the 'noid was on, not the full 100%. I think that 20% would contribute to a 'more power' claim being valid.

In Fresno's defense, the noid 'shouldn't' impact these things, positively or negatively, in a perfect world.

I'm glad it improved your two bikes. For others, it only removed the 'failure to accelerate' condition.

one possibility for smoother performance after the de-noid may be the fact that those who have locked the throttle quadrants together are getting an absolute one to one relationship between the "solenoid" quadrant and the throttle butterfly whereas before there was only the spring tension holding the two which together normally. I de-noided the 1125R at the weekend but can't ride the bike until Saturday, it will be interesting to see if there is any noticeable effect.

P-squared...yes, you are correct there were some added bonuses from de-noiding. I stand corrected on the issues you mentioned. I guess we can all agree that the noid needs to go.

As was stated before:

In theory the de-noiding will not help driviblity. In practice, the noid possibly affects things like throttle response (or throttle resistance) and incomplete butterfly opening.

I noticed the difference as well with my throttle operation and my butterflies also opened up to 100% after de-noiding. It's not a cure all for the bike, but I can see how it could help.

Fresno, I hope you realize I was only messin' with you on the psychic thing.

I'm waiting to see the difference once I get this next flash.

I thought it was just put gas in it & go, and if you rode it in the rain it got washed?

No problem, US. Wasn't too sure, you know how the internet makes sarcasm and kidding around sometimes difficult to pickup. Glad you bike is better and just wait until you get the last flash!

Yeah, my point was to validate Usmoto's perception, in that he was not alone in that "feeling" of a better response across the board.

No personal attacks will typically come from me, so I hope you didn't see it that way, Fresno.

This forum has enough bitchy, opinionated posts without my contributing (unless absolutely necessary, of course).

No worries. Your post made complete sense. I think I was tired and probably had a few brewskies going on, plus it's been months since I de-noided so it wasn't a fresh memory.

FYI, 4th flash is out now. I still don't know what problems it corrects but it was done to my bike a month ago.

I had my ECM checked when I got the final recall - dipstick, spring, hose.
The tech told me it ended in 05Z.
I still get LF/CEL error near the end of the warm-up.
Usually comes on when CT is 148-165 dF.
CT above 165 it goes out.

Thanks for all of your inputs. I hope to get the 3rd flash in the next couple weeks. It's starting to warm up and I can't wait to get out on the road.

I ended up getting my instrument cluster replaced due to the power draw issue (there is a tech bulletin on that somewhere). They also do a new flash (is this the "4rth" one?)

Anyway - put about 140 miles on the bike today (first day with the new cluster). WOW! Yes, it made a SIGNIFICANT difference! Today was pretty much a WOT day - several "runs" getting into the 120+ speeds (at locations that will remain a secret). Lots of hard accelleration. I filled up before I got back to the house - 38 MPG. WOW!

Ok - so I know I rode like a squid all day but damn, it was FUN!

Getting in touch with your inner squid occasionally isn't necessarily a bad thing.....
