Got the R back from the dealer today and the TPS is at 3.5, which is out of range. I tried the twist the throttle 3 times with the bike "ON" but that didn't do anything. Does this manual method work? The only thing different I noticed with the high TPS is the bike revved up higher for a couple seconds upon starting (about 3,000 RPM) which unusual. Could this be TPS related? However, the bike seems to idle the same as before with 2.0 TPS. What exactly is different between a 2.0 TPS and a 3.5 TPS? Thanks fellas. | ||

Set the Run/Stop switch to the Run position. Turn the ignition key to the On position. With the engine off, rotate the throttle grip from its closed throttle position to the wide-open throttle position and back to closed position three (3) times, holding the throttle grip against eash stop (open and closed) for one (1) full second. Cycle the ignition key off and back on. A properly calibrated TPS sensor will indicate 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. Observe the TP sensor voltage display while operating the throttle with engine stopped and ignition switch on.The TP sensor voltage displayed should vary from less than 1 Volt (closed throttle) to greater than 3.5 Volts (WOT). As the throttle is slowly moved, the voltage change should be smooth without any observed spikes or drops in voltage. (Message edited by Two_Buells on February 16, 2009) | ||

I thought a properly calibrated TPS sensor ran in the range of 2 to 100 degrees, closed to wot. When my AT sensor went bad, my bike started doing a high idle thing, similar to what fresno is describing, but got worse and worse. The TPS also started showing 3.5 deg at a closed throttle setting. After the shop had my bike for 5 weeks, and a new IC and AT sensor later, it seems to have fixed all these problems, and my TPS shows 2 deg again at closed throttle. When my bike was doing this high idle thing, it would not respond to a manual reset of the TPS. | ||

I just went and checked my bike, it was showing from 2 to 100 on the TPS degrees setting, and from .5 to 3.9 on the TPS voltage setting in diagnostics mode. From fully closed to fully open throttle, respectively. | ||

Mine has indicated 2.0 to 100.0 since it was delivered new 2 months ago. I believe other references indicate that this is the correct reading. Would the cognoscenti please weigh in.  | ||

Yes, I believe it is supposed to be 2.0 and 100.00 from closed to WFO. Somebody know what kind of awful things can happen if the TPS is out of whack? |
