Went to my local Buell dealership to have some warranty work done on my Ciyx. Whilst there I arranged to have their 2008 1125r demo bike for a couple of hours. I managed to do approx 70 miles on it on different types of road. I did the fast motor way sections, bumpy twisty country lanes and busy city routes with start stop traffic. All in all I'm impressed with this machine. The noises it gives off are excellent. its sorted enough to go like a train but raw enough to still be entertaining. Having owned naked bikes for years I had forgotten what it was like to have a fairing in front of you. The R does a really good job and keeping the blast off. I reckon I could easily cover 100 miles of cross country roads without too much trouble. I was getting 40+ (UK) mpg out of it without trying so thats good enough. I reckon it'll be better at keeping the spray off me when the weathers bad too so thats another bonus. My dealer which is one of the better dealers in the UK has only sold 1 1125 since launch!!! Thats terrible. They are offer some 08MY bikes with a reasonable discount but should I go for an 09MY bike. There are differences like the rear pulley, stronger alternator for more accessories and so on let alone the different injectors. Saying that, the 08MY bike I rode today seemed more than smooth enough if I compared it to my CityX. I do now have sore muscles in my stomach and back which have been caused my the stretch to the sporty bars. Is this something I will get used to? I have conversed on this forum re the convertibars so that may be an option for the future if its still too far a stretch. I understand that the exhaust still rusts but my dealership gets them coated with something to prevent rusting when they do the first swap under warranty (if needed). My only concerns come down to the reach to the bars so please advise on that if possible and the resale value of buells in general. MY City is only 8 months old and the part exchange value offered is terrible. This means I'll suffer a 2nd time when I come to sell on the 1125r in the future :-( Anyway, enough wittering on. please can you guys/gals comment on my thoughts above? | ||

Hey Plumpton, might I suggest the 1125CR with the upright handlebar option? It's got slightly shorter gearing (for even better acceleration) and lacks the fairing, but mine isn't terrible on the freeway. Otherwise, it's basically identical to the regular 1125R. By the way, I had a CityX that I traded for my CR and I have zero regrets. I loved my CityX but it really wasn't fast enough for me and the CR solves that issue! It is probably the most fun bike I've ever ridden, and I have ridden a lot of neat bikes over the years (Ducati 999R, RC51, GSXR/CBR1000s/R1s, etc). | ||

Hi Jjk Ive done some miles on the CR too. This bike also had the optional bars fitted so it felt like a faster version of the CityX. There are a couple of reasons for me having more interest in the R though. firstly the full fairing is a bonus for me. the weather protection alone is a bonus. As you know, the UK is always wet and windy... the 2nd reason is that my dealership is offering a better trade in AND a discount on the 08MY R's. They basically want to shift them so the deal is a lot sweeter. | ||

I came off a Dyna Low Rider and absolutely love the bike. This is my first sport bike I've ever owned. I picked it up last Saturday and have only been able to put 150 miles on it so far but I am very pleased. I got a great deal on an 08 model I couldn't pass up. Coming off a cruiser the rider position isn't too bad. Its definitely going to take some getting use to but so far it seems to be easier on my back. IMO go for the 08 and try to get the numbers you need to do it. My only problem is stupid Chicago weather. Can't wait until nice weather arrives as it snowed last night. | ||

Well then it seems like the R might be a great option for you. You'll get used to the riding position very quickly I would guess. I have the regular clubmans on my CR and feel it's pretty comfortable, even though I'm 6'2" tall. But I always have had sportbikes and even put zero rise bars on my CityX for better front end feel. The only thing that is keeping me off the 1125r is the motor having to be dropped to do spark plugs and valve adjustments. That's just absurd. It's especially absurd when you compare it to how easy everything is to work on with the air cooled motors. Other than that, I very much enjoyed riding my friends 1125r for a little bit. Hopefully he'll let me log some more miles on it in the future. | ||

As a newer rider myself, I also found the R's riding position to be a little uncomfortable, at first. But I quickly got used to it. However, if you still hate it after a while, there is a product called ConvertiBars (google it) that allows for a wide range of positions and angles on the bars. how do you guys find the 1125's power when the road conditions are bad. Its pretty potent so i was wondering if traction was a problem... Id also be interested to hear how the bar reach compares to a bike like a Yamaha R1 or something like that... Another question (sorry) Hows best to get power for a gps on this bike? Is there any way to tap in to a supply in the lights/dash area? | ||

I can't compare it to another sport bike because i haven't been on one but I rode mine mostly in the wet these past few days and it is very tractable. No surprises in the power band anywhere. Very smooth and controllable. My Harley was more of a handful than this bike. I didn't get crazy on it but it felt better than either one of my Harley's. | ||

Your body will adjust to the more aggressive seating position very quickly. The big thing is to remember to keep the weight off your arms and wrists and use the core muscles in your torso to support your body. | ||

the 1125R is way more ergonomic and comfortable than most yamahokazuki bikes. ride it a few days and not only will you get used to it, you'll find it way more comfortable than anything else. | ||

Thats what I did today and god am I paying for it now... Ive used muscles today that have been dormant since the beginning of time... Arms are not sore its just my stomach and back muscles... Well impressed with the bike and I reckon its the one to go for.... | ||

I traded in my 9S on a 08 1125R. Best decision I ever made. Yes I got a little sore the first week I rode it. I wondered if my 52 year old body was up to it. One year later I have no problems putting in 300 mile days on it. I've even done a couple of 500 mile days. I'm beat after a 500 mile day, but no more than I was on the 9S. | ||

There is the ability to set a 4-digit PIN code. You can then set it to ARM, DISARM, or ASK whether to arm. The bike will not start if, when armed, the PIN is not entered. Unfortunately it is not an audible alarm, just an ignition kill. | ||

Guys. Can I ask the owners that have moved from the xb lightning series of bikes about their experiences with rear wheel spray? This is one of the few problems that I don't like about my CityX so I'm hoping the R will be drier when out in the rain. Sounds wierd but I'm not impressed with the amount of spray and debris the rear wheel sprays up my back. By the looks of it, the R has a slightly longer seat unit so really hoping it's sorted the issue. I have asked this question before here but as I have some old xb owners In this thread I might as well get confirmation either way. | ||

Not an XB owner, but the wheel spray was nonexistent for me with the stock plate holder thing (not really a cheese grater...what do we call this thing?). Since the tail chop, wheel spray is measured in gallons per minute. Lost some function in chopping the tail, but it sure looks better... | ||

Like Ponti said. No spray hits the rider with the stock mudflap on there. Taillight gets coated, but better that than me. |
