So I got my nice, new and shiny 11 today, put in 100 miles, went to fill her up and the damn gas cap won't open! I tired both keys, turned them around, wiggled them, did a rain dance and finally called the dealer...in Florida...I'm in Texas. They topped the bike off before shipping so it did open...once.

Both keys work fine in the ignition and the seat lock.

So tomorrow I'm off to the dealer.

I've ridden for 25 year, owned about 8 different bikes and never bumped into this before. What the F am I missing?

Oh...the bike is freaking awesome!!! Well...except for the gas cap...

Thanks

Pete

Try pushing down on the cap while turning the key. Remember it's counter clockwise

Makes me wonder if they were filling up another bike at the same time and got the caps mixed up?

Did the push down thing, no luck. Is the cap not hinged? If it isn't I bet that is the case.

Mine was the same way when I got it, and can be tight at times now. The key would not turn. Spray a small amount of WD40 in the lock and see if it frees up, Don't be afraid to add some muscle. You have a second key if that one breaks. I thought I had the wrong cap also, but it was very very stiff.

Bpt Dude you freaking ROCK! Sprayed it got on it and it popped. I sprayed the inside of the cap down and it loosened up.

If you are ever in Austin I owe you a few beers and some BBQ.

I am ridding this weekend!

if they are anything like the tuber caps, if you swap them between bikes, it won't matter. the locks were not keyed differently. you could unlock any other cap with your ignition key.

Shhh, that's a family secret ;+}.

Guess I'll have to try it with another 1125. Hmm are the XB caps the same as the 1125?

I gotta tell ya, I had a minor heart attack then the thing wouldn't open. I had visions of the lock core needing to be drilled out, etc, etc. Days, weeks, months...years of the bike sitting at the dealer. Thanks goodness for WD40!

Hellgate, im in Austin myself. Can't ride this weekend though. While my bike was sitting for the past couple of months, it developed a leak in the clutch cylinder so its not rideable at the moment. Dealer will be picking it up on Monday.

Fireman too bad, my FZ6 buddies and I are going to ride Sunday. Not sure of details as of yet. We are going to do Devil's Backbone sometime this Spring. You'll need to ride with us, it's a good, safe crew with a few fast guys.

BTW...I put gas in my bike today! wOOT!
