Hey, I tried searching for this but couldn't find it. Can someone summarize the existing knowledge for me please?

My R (May 08) displays the battery light often (almost daily) when the key is in with the engine off. Almost always happens in the few seconds between turning the key and starting the bike, and often happens if I kill the engine and leave the key on for a few seconds. Doesn't seem to matter how much, how far, or how fast I ride. The only thing that seems to make (a little) difference is staying off the high beams; then it only happens about 1/2 as often. HD recently replaced the battery to fix this, but it still happens. So far the battery has not actually died (so far). But still . . .

I seem to remember someone saying something about the 08 instrument cluster having something to do with it. Can you refresh my memory? And is there some official info that I can point to when I take it in so I don't just get another battery?

Thanks in advance,

Marco

My bike is also a May 2008 build and does the exact same thing. I was gonna check my SW version, per tech tip 396, and see if I'm eligible for a new IC.

Stone Mountain HD just replaced mine #237 no muss no fuss. Time will tell if it fixes the battery drain issue. sure hope s. But it would be nice if BMC would replace the alternator with the 09 version. Then I think it could keep the battery charged no question asked.
