Hey guys.

I'm thinking of adding a headlight modulator (blinker) to increase my visibility. Anyone have any experience with particular brands? Any other issues I should be aware of? I especially would like to avoid cutting or drilling to the greatest extent possible.

Also, what do you think about taillight modulators? I'm in CA, and I believe code requires it go to solid on after a few blinks.

Thanks,

Marco

My experience as someone who sees those bikes I assume you are warning of a upcoming hazzard or sped trap.

I wish they were Illegal as they are distracting to all drivers.
Flashing lights should only be on emergency vehicles.

>>>fortunately they ARE legal for use on motorcycles

They are and I keep a copy of the letter from the Feds saying so with my inspection and registration.

The full law is HERE.

The applicable part building the case describing how the modulator must work and stating that Federal law preempts any state laws are Here

In other words, the cop can't tell you "I don't care what the Federal Law says, the laws of (INSERT STATE HERE) say you can't do it. The Feds basically saw that no state can make a law in conflict with the federal provision.

Yes, I know they are legal. I'm interested in referrals to (or away from) a particular brand. I want the simplest, most reliable unit possible, and I'd love not to have to do surgery on my fairing if possible.

only "surgery" needed is to splice into your wiring harness and to hide the module of the modulator mfg you choose. I have this modulator below. I'll sell it to you for 30$ under half what I paid. I have the installation instructions as well basically a 4 wire hook-up.

wouldn't let me put in a link and pics made new post with link and pics

This: http://www.kisantech.com/index.php?cat_id=3 has been my unit of choice for over 10 years. After 7 or 8 of them, I loose count, their exponential decay flash pattern GRABS drivers attention, especially when you use LED lights.

It is almost like a strobe, since with the LED's, they can cycle so much faster than a conventional bulb. After 4-5 seconds the flashing "decays" to a soild "on" brakelight. I can tell from cages approaching me from the rear that it really does grab their attention. Most cages will give me plenty of room when approaching me with the LED's flashing. If I see someone approaching me when I am stopped, I will release my brakes for a moment to get the Tailblazar to do it's thing and it really does work (that is unless someone is out to harass me or be an A$$!). Everyone that has seen mine, remarks how obnoxious it is and, next asks where they can get one. Too bad I can't post vids on BWB and I don't have any posted where the public can access them.

OK, I got the Diamond Star pictured above. The manufacturer provides very nice, clear instructions with schematics for separate high- and low-beams, and for dual headlights with integrated high/low: http://66.252.233.21/products/DiamondStar/DiamondS tar_Instructions.PDF and http://66.252.233.21/products/DiamondStar/Dual%20H eadlight%20Modulator%20Kit.pdf respectively.

But of course, the 1125R has 6 different bulbs in 6 different housings. I haven't even started to take it apart to look at the wiring because I want to have a game plan in place before I start the surgery. Can someone help me out? If someone has a schematic for the 1125R that would be awesome but if not, just knowing whether the relevant wiring resembles one schematic or the other would be enough.

Thanks in advance!

Marco
