FWIW, we already have all three flashes converted from hexadecimal to pulsewidth, months ago.

Thanks to Xb9! Thanks Xb9!!!!!

Can't find support to anything relevant to leaner or richer for any flash to another within them.

P.s...this is just another reason why some of us question the hows and whys to what is actually the root of this thread. mm

Sly,

Thanks. Questions are good. When I pick up the Shiny Beast, I'll try to get more detail on what the flashes corrected, unless somebody beats me to it. I'm also going to get a diagnostic done just in case.

THANK YOU BLACK for your HELP! AND I MEAN THAT!

For whatever reason this is, I believe many would like to have further understanding.

Understanding this has been difficult, to say the least. Forget without bias and something that we all can get our little heads around.

Thanks again Black for all the positive efforts that you are doing for the cause and not taking anything that some of us post in the wrong way.

After all, it isn't meant to be ill, it is meant to be beneficial! Thank goodness you understand that... for all of us inclusive.

Best regards, mm

Ok Dr. Phil, you come across loud and clear.

... for all of us inclusive
I can speak for myself.

Black,
A good dealer will be able to diagnose and figure things out. Thanks for the update.

Good enuff there Doerman, along with your personal bull$hit when I've really attempted to keep from that.

For what ever reason some of you have an issue, best of luck.

Done with this one and hope above all else that you all have a very COOL Christmas and happy New Years too!

For those folks that think red hot glowing headers while a bike is sitting idle is normal, perhaps you should disregard this thread as worthless and of no value?

For folks like myself that have doubt, that think this could be a seriously harmful condition that hurts the longevity of the engine, we should continue to question, investigate, and seek the eternal answer to "WHY?".

No need to argue over anything. If you dismiss the condition, please feel free to dismiss the thread. THAT will be our indication of your perspective.

Flame on...

+1 Ponti1

Great post you leave Black.

I'm new here got interested with the release of the new Buells.

I think I have this area figured out. Any odd behavior of the new bike is "NORMAL" around here until after a recall or new flash or TT is issued, then it may be talked about only in polite thankful terms.

Thank you for your insightful post.

Man, you can tell it's Ccccold outside,
Starting to warm up here...

I am by no means trying to denigrate anyone or their ideas here.
My last post was kinda terse, I was on my iPhone.

I DO believe something's "not right" with the headers glowing.
I also believe it's not something that's going to lead to a "meltdown" or anything catastrophic.

MM - you are doing great stuff and are much deeper into the 11's internals than I - keep at it, please.
I would expect a little richer and a little less timing advance and the glow should be gone, at idle.
The factors, as I see them, contributing to "the glow" are:
timing
fueling
airflow outside the pipe
pipe alloy
exhaust velocity.

The first two will dictate the temperature of the raw exhaust gasses.
The third will affect how hot the outside surface gets, how rapidly heat is "taken away".
The alloy will determine how fast that heat energy migrates to the outside of the pipe.
The exhaust velocity will affect how much heat is carried out the tail pipe and how much stays in the pipe.

There's a lot going on, no simple answers yet.
Be patient, methodical and calm.

Gotta get ready for work.
Zack

Update:

Since the weather started getting nicer around here (above 40) I've had the bike out several times, but still no time to bring it to the dealership. I've been wanting to run diagnostic mode to get you guys some figures (if it's worth it) I finally took care of that today and here's what I got:

Fr O2 voltage fluctuated between .1-.9
Rr O2 voltage fluctuated between .1-.8
F adapt Fuel 100.0
R adapt Fuel 105.0

Does this help at all? I still plan on taking the bike to the dealership, but I need to find a ride back first. That is, should I plan on them keeping the bike for a while? How long will it take?

Thanks guys!
