Took the bike in yesterday for a few warranty issues and the service manager asked if I noticed any suspension problems. I asked why and he just got a bulletin for some front suspension adjustment issues. He had not read it yet so he didn't know much about it at that point. Just wondering if anybody knows what its about? I did notice that the compression adjusters on the front don't seem to do much when turned and I also have a clunk in the front that is getting louder.

I'll wager head bearing/preload upon them.

I've had this question since delivery of Jan 08 but haven't whined about it as I am riding way slower than rated speeds.

Five other test riders on my bike tho, noticed this clunk and/or play...if that is what your experiencing?

I've done the teardowns/preload/setup, ect, three times, still loose and still play.

Mine might be isolated but I'm still curious to your post.

I had the forks apart a few days ago. I had a couple flakes of metal come out of the right one. I was really just inspecting and changing the fluid over to Klotz synthetic fluid. I wish now that I would have taken every piece of the things apart. The head bearings on my bike have no play at all, the noise is internal in the right fork. When the tire was off the bike just pushing up on the right fork would make the noise. You can feel it in the bars now when hitting a few bumps in a row. Its really noticeable when the bike is off and you bounce the front or push the bike over bumpy ground. I also checked 3 other early 08 bikes and they all had a slight clunk but mine has gotten really loud. I'll let you guys know if the dealer finds anything.

The 10w Klotz synthetic fluid has reduced the sticky forks somewhat.

But then us badwebbers already knew this!

Gotta love this site. Just glad BMC followed thru and is attempting to clarify the very confusing error (and possibly dangerous) in the documentation. It took a while, but glad to see that bulletin nonetheless. +1

It's good to have the official word from Buell on this. Thanks BMC!
I thought it was important enough to post it here to make it available to current owners.
I didn't know if something will be mailed...

Thanks XB9 for the link.

Now the real question: Why the change in the suspension mid-year?

News to me. Just checked, my 6-08 manufactured and purchased in 10-08 was tuned incorrectly using the new component settings.

They must have used the service manual as guidance. Must have been rock hard setup...glad nothing went wrong on the road. You should be much happier with the proper setup.

Quoted from B-085 Service Bulletin.

"The suspension settings published in the 2008 Owner’s Manual are correct for the suspension components on 1125R Models (DOM, CAL and CAN) built through July 7, 2008."

My critical reading skills either suck or I'm in the twilight zone. My 2008 owners manual has the figures printed the same as the bulletin's table number 2. My fork's serial numbers tell me I should use table 3.

Bike handles fine. Or should I say, I have NO problems handling the bike.

Hmmm. Come to think of it, during one of my conversations with BMC they indicated there were revisions of the 2008 owners manual. I suppose it is possible the new component settings snuck in there during one of the revisions. You can always just try Table 3 settings and see if the setup goes to mush.

I was just playing around in the archives to see when the '08 service manual hit the streets and it the first part of July. Now to me it seems even more likely that the incorrect SM settings may have gotten the OMs produced around that time.

I just think it's funny the "Purpose" of the service bulletin as stated in the first paragraph under "Purpose" ,is to clear up the identified confusion.

Then in paragraph two, they themselves reveal their selves as confused.

By the way I ordered a custom seat and also a service manual. I should've had them a week ago.

I think it is a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing...engineering decided to change the suspension and somehow the mid-year change wasn't conveyed properly to the documentation people.

Sounds good to me.

Problem solved.

And if there is ever an opening for Tech-writer to Engineer liaison \ full-time test pilot which becomes available....let me know first.

just did the new adjust. Feels ok until you power in till the front wheel gets lite. The fork damp is too stiff for a 165er like me. the head shake from the tire bouncing was wild.
I took it up to the college parking lot, its like having your own 1/4 mile oval track rite down the street, and cornered as fast as the lot would allow, twisting hard on it coming out and it stuck. The back end was perfect for being laid over as far as 40mph in a short distance will give you. With a little work its not bad for a base line. my $.02
