I was leafing through the December 2008 issue of Sport Rider when I came across a particularly erudite letter entitled "Buell Suspension Setup", on page 14.

As I continued to peruse this learned piece, which took the position that Sport Rider's review of the 1125R was "totally pointless", I vaguely remembered reading something similar in the not too distant past.

Arriving at the end of the letter, I immediately saw why.
I had written it myself several months ago in response to Sport Rider's review of the 1125R in which they proved that they know little about suspension set up in general and Buell's in particular.

Senior Editor Andrew Trevitt answered my letter with an treatise of his own that was even longer than my letter, rather less comprehensible, and which basically said I was wrong.

Editor Trevitt closed with some observations about Lil' Blackie that were, as Court would say, inaccurate.

Oh well.

No one is perfect.

I sincerely recommend that no brother trifle with this drivel, and turn instead to a much more informative review of the 1125CR in Roadracing World, on page 20.

I'm no expert in suspension set up, but it seemed to me that in their review, the SR crew was much too invasive. Messing with the steering geometry (at the expense of suspension travel, if I remember right?) seemed wrong... the 1125R is what it is.

It has heavier steering, but it also does not have a steering damper (and thus saves complexity and weight, etc.).

Rather than embrace the bike, they imposed their own ideas of what a sport bike should be. I found that profoundly annoying, but I suppose it is their review, and we can take it or leave it.

Thanks for giving them a hard time, though! I want to look up your letter now...
