I just had my belt break at 9600 miles on Thursday. Iron Valley HD got me going fast after they located a belt, I went after it to get it faster, and they installed it quickly. Thanks to them for getting it done on Friday. The only problem is the new belt is tracking about 1/8 from the inside edge of the sprocket, but the old one was always all the way in. Is this bad or could it be normal for some belts? I know some had this posted a long time ago and I wanted to know if they had problems. | ||

For me this has been the norm ever since I received my bike with 0 miles. I now have 6.5k miles. Just make sure it isn't rubbing anywhere and not much more than 1/8" out and you should be good. Mine has always stuck out just a bit and has cause no problems for me so far. | ||

Snug to 1/4" is within spec according to an annony on this topic back about 9 months ago. Mine is tracking with a 1/8" gap as well. | ||

My belt has been fraying and now its chipping on the edges. The manual suggests that you monitor the wear. 2K miles on it.  | ||

There were threads somewhere on "shimming" the belt guards with washers because of the possibility of the guards rubbing. I shimmed mine right away when I brought the bike home. The bottom belt guard has a metal guard on the inside. Make sure you shim the metal one also otherwise it could rub on the inside of the belt. | ||

I just shimmed mine enough to center the metal guard around the belt. I noticed at first that the guard had about 4mm extra gap on the inside. Did the shimming at ~150 miles. Now at 2nd service, and no additional wear. | ||

My belt broke at about 25,000 miles. No unusual signs of wear at all. New belt tracks just off the pulley as well. It may break in to track normally. | ||

If there are variance's than I think the dealers should be doing the shimming during the famous "prep" charge. |
