The SHARP helmet testing people in UK have an ongoing testing program; and I note that the Buell helmet earned 5 stars. See it at http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/details/?id=97

It's really an AGV helmet, if I'm not mistaken. AGVs do very well in the SHARP tests. I got a Shark recently, which also do well in these tests... it's one SHARP Shark!

Yup, I see that amongst the 5 star-rated helmets, SHARP lists 2 of the AGVs and 1 of the Sharks. Note the tiny arrows at the top of each column that allow you to sort the list as you like it; for example, by its rating:

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/results/?sort=ma nufacturer&dir=asc&manufacturer=0&type=0&rating=0& size=0&price=0

Note also that they're (so far) testing only full-face helmets; personally I wear an open-chin helmet for commuting.

Thanks for the link... nice.

Most painfully, we see a 400 quid Schuberth helmet, with only 2 stars. I'd hate to be a bloke with that or the Vemar VSREV helmet (also 2 stars).

As a former Schuberth and current Vemar wearer, yes those 2-star ratings are a bit of a bummer there. Mine were/are the Concept and the Jiano which aren't listed, so I'll be optimistic and tell myself that those models would surely test better. That Schuberth was hands-down the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. I wore my C1 for a few seasons longer than I should have just because I couldn't find anything that fit as nicely.

The turbulent helmet is indeed and AGV unit. Their Street Flame and Reline helmets are by KBC

I don't know about there testing parameters, but I did notice that both Arai and Shoei had relatively low scores for a 'Premium' Helmet! I'm quite sure that these are VERY good helmets if not the best you can get, and I'm not sure what to think about this test in that regard.

It's definitely a controversial test... some manufacturers aren't pleased. But SHARP makes a compelling argument for the "real-world" nature of their testing...

Big cost doesn't always equal best protection. That's the marketing talking. Gimme a DOT helmet over a Snell helmet anyday.

SHARP - be careful, there is great controversy in the UK at the moment with regard to how valid the results of the SHARP impact tests actually are. The Arai lids are getting a relatively low score due to not doing so well on the impact tests but the actual position on the helmet that the test takes place on is not considered to be a likely impact point on the street. I will always use an Arai RX7 Corsair regardless of the SHARP test data.

+1 John.

The SHARP tests are seriously flawed and are now not beleiedv to be anywhere near as good as the 'old' BSI standard tests. I would take them with a large pinch of salt and certainly would not base a helmet purchase purely on the results of the SHARP tests.

Any thoughts on how BSI compares with ECE22-05?
