I'm in NJ and love the bike. Commute to NYC daily. 2500 miles and all recalls/flashes done.
That said, I will probably buy the new Yamaha R1 in January and don't need 2 superbikes.
What do you guys think I could get for the 2008 1125r?

We are a dealer in Ohio and recently listed our new 2008 models with all updates done(fantastic change) for $9799 and still have 4 left. We had a used one listed on e bay with 600 miles and it did not bring the $7500 reserve price we listed it for. Still have it and am enjoying riding it every day. (By the way we are a Yamaha dealer also and have a 2007 R1 listed new for $8999 and cant seem to find a buyer so it is just not Buell that drops a lot of resale value.

A mission begging for a Ulysses . . . . I leave class 3 nights a week and wander the streets of Gotham, loiter through Times Square, head over the Brooklyn Bridge to the Starbucks on Gold and just meander . . . it there ever was a New York City commuter bike . . it's the Ulysses.

If you love the bike, why sell it? You will get hammered on the resale value and also get bent over again when buying the new bike.

Jaab4 thanks for the input. Resale values just suck! I'll PM you in Jan for info on the R1 if you don't mind.

FWIW, I'm moving to Cali in January and need room in my truck and want to avoid Cali motor vehicle hassles.

I'll keep it if If Buell offers 09 upgrades (12 hole targeted injectors/'09 ECM/O2 sensors/CR gearing) on the '08 and I can find a good looking full fairing kit (Ilmberger sadly doesnt do the scoops). It looks like it would cost me just as much to kit it out the way I want. I've tried designing my own stuff with little success.

Thanks court, but I have an XB9 for urban stuff ; )

Plus, the new R1 is sick. It only needs new pipes to be perfect. ZTL-2 wouldn't hurt either.

The R1 is an awesome bike and I really like the looks. That motor just has to rev too high to make its power. I think the 1125R is a lot more practical machine for street riding.

R1 - Great track bike and ok street ride.

1125R - Great on the track or street.

Interesting discussion. I'm thinking of trading my FJR in on a '09 R1 for track and converting my 1125 back to street with bags etc.

What would be the advantage of the new growler motor over the 1125? Wouldn't you have less classes to ride in?

The new R1 isn't the peaky thing it used to be. They have a whole new crank and it actually makes real torque now

I'll pass... I've had the Japanese superbike and it doesn't matter what you get, they look the same. They are a dime a dozen. I never had people sit and stare at my Gixxer the way that they sit and stare at my 1125R. Yeah the I-4's are faster and rev higher, but the average everyday joe straps them on everyday. There is just something about owning a bike that was designed by a small town guy that is passionate about motorcycles.

I'd keep the Buell if I didn't have to move cross country AND have so many issues to fix (including aesthetics).

If I EVER bought a jap bike again, I would have to go with an R1. But I just don't see an R1 in the garage anytime soon. It would be after an 09 blue/white 1125R sat in there for a long time first!
NEXT to my 03 XB of course!

But I do think the R1's are very good looking bikes, but then again so are the 1125 series bikes!

BTW. There's this guy I work with that has an 03 or 04 R1. We were leaving at the same time tonight, about 9:30. I weigh around 270 dressed w/ gear. He's about 220. I smoked his A$$ from a 10 MPH roll on. Pulled him all the way to about 120. With my fat ass on it. Down low, it was really dramatic with the torque that the motor makes, and the lower gearing on the CR.

The best part was the confused/amazed look on his face when we hit the next light. Like "How did that just happen? That wasn't supposed to happen????!?"

Priceless.

The 04^ Yamaha R1 IS an excellent choice (NOT a "JAP" bike but an I4 Japanese)...no matter whom might argue otherwise. I've played with many years/even after the 5valve went down to 4. Excellent machines in 95%+ of every way!...with age, it might hurt a little tho! : )

I've owned a number of Yamaha products over the years and they have always been on the cutting edge of tech and out of the box design & marketing.

When I purchased my first Buell tho...back in January, I was torn between it @ full MSRP and a $2k less Ravin R1.

I took a chance and changed brands.

Since then and after all that I've learned and all the great friends that I've come to call such, I cannot go back now.

When you get really involved with Buell...you realize the involvement thats lacking in all other brands/venues.

If I were to move to any other local that needed a change for emission reason?...I'd start such a thread herein, BadWeb...welcome this awesome feedback and then make the call to BMC.

I'd wager that they might like to keep YOU as a keeper!

Oh, by the way...other bodywerks is coming!

Best of wishes on your relocate and your decision! mm

I ASSUME you don't own a 1125r, so how the F@CK do you know anything about who is staring at our 1125rs and why? What is the point of that post?

You like the R1. GREAT. Why don't you find a forum of R1 enthusiasts, rather than make your inflammatory posts here.

if i was in the market for a yamahokazuki bike, the R1 would be on the list of contenders, along with a GSXR 750. Just love em for some reason.

However, there are no plans for a yamahokazuki in my collection. I'm a twin junkie. ...to be more precise, a Buell twin junkie.

I got to ride a new R1 yesterday and it's a frigging beast. I'd not be able to road-trip on one without vast amounts of painkiller, but it'd be fun for local work.

Because I'm obsessed with motorcycles and hang in those circles with gear heads. When the topic of the new Buell comes up almost without exception the looks comes up first thing in a negative way. Truth be told its becoming a running joke with a lot of enthusiast.

Unless Buell has sold all they ever want to I'm assuming they want to grow the market to these type gear head people. Potential customers is where EVERY business focuses to grow.

I doubt anyone would tell an owner the truth why they are staring at anything they own. What do you say when you wife says does my ass look big in these pants?

And lastly, you should calm down before you have a heart attack over something subjective and unimportant to the bikes performance. As long as you are in love is the only thing that matters, or should matter. I kinda like the B-King but I don't feel offended when others call it ugly.

Thanks Slypirrana. To get this thread back on track...
I am potentially selling for a number of reasons NONE of which have anything to do with Buell's engine/chassis/ZTL/Belt/other phenomenal innovations that make it so appealling

If I have to sell when I move, I probably wont buy another 1125r. The '08 issues and lack of a race kit are a factor, but not the only one. I got my 1125r for 9400. I wanted to know how much of a loss I'd take beyond the reduced purchase value. If the 09 1125r were about $9400, this wouldn't be an issue at all. The fact that it's priced the same as the 2009 R1 and Duc 848 AND needs some extra love to be as sexy as those two makes the decision harder.

}
Moving my life to CA is a big trip for a small Honda Ridgeline and while I'd love to have my bike there, I've heard I may not be able to register it.

Clark,

registering a 49 state bike, or "non CA emission bike" requires 7500 miles on the odometer. They dont even waive the requirement for Military moving in from out of state or overseas! Damn liberal bastards!!

You can register it with ease when you are the owner and move into the state. The only additional step is that DMV wants to see it and check the VIN number to assure that you are the owner.

I moved into the state of CA with motorcycles. It was a breeze to get them registered.

What you may have heard about is if you are a CA resident and buy an out of state motorcycle with less than 7,500 miles. That's pert near impossible to do. The RepubliK of Kalifornia gets mean in that instance.

Bro, people approach me. I have not once asked anyone's opinion of my bike, but I have gotten PLENTY of great feedback from owners of all types of bikes.

+1 on loving one's own bike. I certainly do. However, my personal pet peeve on the forum is non-owners claiming to be omniscient of sportbike scene asserting the world hates the looks of the 1125r. Why? Because the crowd you run with says so? I bet most of the people who you refer to have never seen a 1125r in person. Have you?

I can't help you with an upgrade kit, but a full fairing is available from multiple sources.

Check with Catalyst Composites. They have a nifty setup that isn't too outrageous price-wise.

Where in CA are you moving to?
