It was just too damn quite, I was originaly going to go all out and build a compete exhaust using tube type mufflers, but in the mean time I need some sound.

Lets see what it looks like. (Tkat aka Darrell doing most of the work, I dont like to get dirty)

Then we filled the holes at the front (yes, I know....I cannot weld)

I wonder why its so quite....

.......

The the tips had to go.

the picture didnt come out of what I put in the place of all that holey rusted pipe. (damn camera phone) Basicly a stainless steel 2.5" pipe (10" long) with a 45* bend (might have been a little more than 45 degrees)

Ok Darrell lets weld her up!

Damn you Darrell, TOO MUCH WELD! You know what to do!

Supposed to be a picture of him grinding, but it wont load......

Me fighting to get the muffler back on the bike...

A couple of better quality shots (not camera phone)

I still have to grind some of the welds so take it easy on the comments....

I Integrated a 3 inch tip, left all baffles in & added a little diamond grateing on the inside to get the right tone and to keep debris from falling inside of pipe.Yours looks good too .I dont know how yours sounds but i love the way mine does Its got a awesome thumping noise at idle too.

A. We took out most of the perforated pipe in the rear of the muffler for more sound. And it sounds great! I set off some more alarms in the parking garge today }}

very impressive. I think the pot is calling the kettle black here. @sshole = someone that gets off by tripping car alarms with his exhaust noise.

Well done, Sci; you've added to the science used in modding the stock exhaust. How about some pics of what you changed inside?

Sci are you going to get it dyno'd?
And has anyone tried shortening the stock pipe so you can fit tyre warmers?

I plan on getting it dyno'd this Sat. Unfortunately I didnt get a base line, kind of a last minute decision to change it. But it does feel stronger down low.}

"Around these parts you gotta have tough skin." Just roll with it Sci, I think you are doing great. Of course this is coming from someone who loves his D&D. I don't think Fresno would like me either.

Nice work on the exhaust by the way. Hope you get a video or sound clip up. I did a baseline on my stock pipe before I put the D&D on so I hope to get the bike back down there to see how the D&D compares.

See if this helps understand properly, and yes, I can concur... we had much beer that week.

The first pic is marked by a Red 'X' on which pipes we removed.

X = Removed

This pic attempts to show the placement of the pipe, as Sci mentioned , this pipe was bent ~45 degrees, since we removed part of the muffler's bracing to route the pipe, we used the mass of the new pipe to replace the integrity we removed. worked well.

If it was not for Sci, we would not have any pics, I just never think about it until it is too late.

So, we did test with the pipe directly connected to the existing pipe, that was just too loud. Sci was afraid of waking his neighbors, so he really isn't that much of an ass.

This setup gave him a really low rumble at idle, really great sounding actually and is not ear drum busting. Very good compromise, compromising on the slightly louder side.

If someone wanted a little less noise then keep the large pipe nearest in the pic and hack the one in the rear, that should do the trick.

Again, really great sounding. I have a D&D on my XB12R and I think I like the sound of Sci's better, Sci's has a deeper sound and not as loud driving through the city streets.

all that said, it is loud. : )

Sorry, one last thing, having know what I know now, I sure would not have hacked up the muffler that much. Welding that thin metal back together was pure hell. (but still fun, could have been the beer)

I would have contained the cuts to the rear area where we removed the pipes and placed in the new one and would have left everything else intact.

But, Sci sucks at searching forums and we did not gain any knowledge of what others did until 'after' we were done. go figure. : ) Now I see the 'search' link at the bottom of the page. lol So, we cut to learn, really was good times.
