Much like the XB's if the suspension is NOT set up right, it's ugly. I thought I had made a horrible mistake for the first few days when I got my Lightning. Then I got the suspension sorted out, and it was perfect. Sun shining, birds chirping. Little poofy white clouds.... Ahhhhh....

In all fairness the r1 will run not circles but will outperform the 1125r . My close friend has a r1 champion edition 01 . We run em alot at the track and street . he runs 10.3 a I run 10.6 at dragstrip. Streetwise ya if I catch him under a gear at low rpm say at 3 rpm and me at 3 rpm ya I'll smoke em . But in all fairness the r1 is a faster bike hands down. I love my 1125r it's a different beast.let's give the r1 some credit folks

the "big bang" firing sequence in the new R1 is supposed to have the low end of a V-twin and also the topend rush of a il4. Im in

It's not really a "Big Bang," it's a "Cross Plane" firing order. Instead of the pistons being 180 opposed, they are opposed by 90 degrees. Gonna have a REAL interesting and unique exhaust sound, like a muffled version of Rossi's YZF-M1 MotoGP bike.

actually cross plane is the technical version of big bang. The firing order is staggered 270-180-90-180, just like the YZR-M1.

My bad, the cross plane crankshaft causes the "big bang" cylinder firing. I should have worded it differently in my previous post.

Yamaha in their press release specifically says it is NOT "Big Bang." I'm only going by what I read.

I think the original "big-bang" GP two strokes had crank phasing where all four pots fired within 70 degrees.

I looked at one in person at hd shop today and relized im missing nothing but the gearing on my R.I think that the cr handle bar position is horrible. And the bike looks guaudy.

IMO, unless you are a very advanced rider, the rider will determine which bike outperforms the other anywhere other than the drag strip.

Yes, how DARE they put a sport-bike handle bar position on a sport bike! Who the hell do they think they are?

I thought streetfighters were supposed to have more upright bars. To me it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the R and CR to have similar riding positions. I bought my XBS over the XB9 primarily due to the more upright position. Buell seems to be aware as they already have the whole kit to raise the bars.

It sure looks light a streetfighter to me. Maybe that's cause I associate cafe racer with bikes from 50,60 years ago. Really, except for the bars, the XBS is to the XB9 as the 1125CR is to the 1125R.

I think that Buell has succeeded in producing two new bikes in the 'CR'. Cafe Racer and Street Fighter. Brilliant, really - at least IMHO...

A hoodlums bike. Mean and rebellious. Looks like a standard bike ratted out.

Mates, I wish you lot wouldn't just guess at what something means; my Mom always told me to "look it up":

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=caf e%20racer

http://scooter.meetup.com/264/messages/boards/thre ad/5187682

http://caferacersreturn.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_ar chive.html

In research, the idea is not to BE right, but to GET IT RIGHT.

Nice, Red. Remember Mr. Buell's description:

A modern interpretation of the cafe racer.

I think he hit it!

Back to Yamaha R1s, according to these links:

2008: http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yama ha_r1%2008.htm

2009: http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yama ha_r1%2009.htm

. . . the 09 gained weight (33kg) and lost power (7 hp) over the "induction version" of the 08.

The formula I use (average of a bike's wt/pw and wt/tq) the 08 is #1 above even the cbr with 1.2 factor, and the 09 drops significantly below (to 1.5) the 1125r (with 1.3).

And I reckon (don't have either the 08 or 09 (not yet available here) prices on the Australian website) it's quite a bit dearer in both countries than our Buells.

BTW, Forum sponsors (not just the Board), the website I've referenced above is read by heaps of viewers, is kept up-to-date privately, and IS LOOKING FOR SPONSORS. I highly recommend it, as EVERY bike built since the 1960s is on the bloody thing; and has helped me choose 4 motorbikes for myself (with its ready technical data) so far.

I don't think it gained 33kg Red...
One is wet weight, the other dry.
Peak HP isn't the whole story either, and manufacturers HP numbers are notoriously rubbery. A back to back dyno comparison will be interesting though.

Well done, Ruprecht, I missed the wet/dry notation; typically the site uses only dry and I should have paid more attention.
