Took my bike in for the most recent ECM flash (which would not "take" on my bike--need to bring it back in). When I got home that night, I noticed that my right rear turn signal was not working.

1. Does anyone think this is related to the attempted albeit unsuccessful ECM flash? Or is this just coincidence, and it is a simple LED failure, as has been discussed here many times?

2. The left front and rear signals flash at a normal rate. The right FRONT signal, however, flashes at a much faster rate. When others have experienced a broken rear tail light, is it also your experience that the front corresponding light flashes faster?

This seems strange to me.

hey Fp.

They say that the not "taking" with the re-flash can be because the batt doesn't have enough juice. Have them put it on the charger as they try to flash it next time.

1. Just coincidence.

2. It's a "hey the turn signal is out" thing. That's why the left is fine but the right is flashing faster. It's to let you know something is up.

Sruzhyo--that is exactly what happened--they said my battery was low, and that they had to charge it up. Unfortunately, once they got to the right voltage/amperage/energy/whatever, it still did not take. The service guy thought perhaps there was a problem with their equipment. He was going to have some regional guy check it out.

I may buy a batter tender, although I think the ECM update is also supposed to address charging issues, too, isn't it?

The first reflash earlier this year was for charging.

Buy and use a tender. Mine is on the tender whenever it's in the garage.

Not sure why but thinking a battery tender is normal hits me wrong.

I imagine the need if you don't ride for periods of six weeks or more. If it's an electric bike, OK. but if your traveling, where so you plug in?

I just do it for my own peace of mind I guess. The dealer was kind enough to connect the pigtail to the battery for me, so I figure may as well use it when the bike sits 3 feet from the tender in the garage anyway.

When I ride to work (3rd shift) it sits all night without the tender and is fine.

As far as traveling, if your battery is properly maintained by using a tender, it shouldn't give you any issues on a road trip.

Then why do they call the batteries maintenance free? Are my expectations too high for 2008 technologies?

Not at all Buellborn.

I had charging issues twice when the bike first came out. I sat it on a charger overnight, and nothing since. I had a grounding issue once, and since then, have not had a problem at all.

I'm sure the reflash helped, but I haven't had an issue, and she's sat for up to a week or so before, fired right up with no issues. I'm sure she'd be good for longer too.

I just don't trust these little batteries in any bike. Plus bikes just don't have the charging system that your car does.

The way I roll may be over kill, but it works for me.

Maintenance free just means you do not have to put water in them. Well, at least not after the first time when they are installed. Then you, suppossedly, do not have to put more water in them again.

Well,

I thought that I had escaped the turn signal "genie", but alas, I have been "gotten". Today on the way to work, I noticed that the left blinker was blinking at a faster rate and I could see that it was working on the front. When I got to work my fears were confirmed. The left rear blinker is toast. It worked a couple more times during the day, but for the most part is history. I just stopped by one of the "cookie cutter" bike shops and picked up a set of LED blinkers for about $40. They blink faster, but who cares. It is worth it not to have to go through the hassle of waiting for the parts to show up and wait for one of the shops to replace it. Plus, the blinkers are a known issue. The last thing I want to do is keep replacing them.

Court,

I appreciate your advice, but it will take more than $40 plus 30 minutes of my time and effort in order to get the blinkers fixed at the dealer. It is a 30 minute job at max for me to replace them myself with aftermarket LEDs. it will take me that long in travel time to and from the dealer, not to mention waiting for the items to arrive, which, best case scenario will be one day. Then I have to wait at least an hour, but probably longer at my dealer to get the signals replaced. I will have to wait until I have time to get to the dealer, which will not be until saturday. This will cost me $30 in extra gas and tolls between today (Thursday) and saturday. I already have the "Tail Tidy" fender eliminator, so the aftermarket blinkers will blend right in. Again thanks, but looking at the big picture, the "warranty" work is not cost effective for me and in my situation.

Using HD labor rate @ my dealer ($100/hr)

Me replacing LEDs

$40 Aftermarket LEDs
$50 Labor
$90 Total

Dealer Replacing under warranty

$0 Replacement Blinker
$50 My travel Time
$100-200 My wait time (minimum 1-2 hours)
$30 gas & tolls until I can get to dealer (difference between my economy car and bike for two days)

$180-$280 total which is being conservative. (my time is more than $100/hr, but to be fair, I used my dealers rate)

I count time like money just like you.

And you can't get it back.

Left blinker went out again. First one died at 6000, second died at 7300. This is getting ridiculous
