I reciently had the recall flash, 10 14 08, now when I activate the ask mode, i enter pin, select ask. Upon restarting bike, enter pin again, bike starts no probs. Then turning off, the screen shows "enter pin" for @ .005 of a second and turns off. I have 2 turn back on and set to "ask" again! And again. WTH??? I tried in other modes and e-thing works as it should. Giving me time to enter my pin. Is there some "recall" on this, I haven't heard of this in any of these forums..tks

I had this happen to me a few times i found it was b/c my battery voltage was low so throw on a charger and see if it still does it with a full charged battery it fixed it for me.

I had the same problem and corrected it with a provoked "brownout": I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for about 5 seconds and reconnected it. Computer reset itself and I was good to go.

Same thing happened to mine and Cataract2s 1125s as well. First time I replaced my battery, second time it happened I just disconnected and then reconnected the negative terminal haven't had the problem since.

More often!!! 3 weeks old, "broke in" 712 miles by the 2nd week, I ride brother!! I ride!Big foot, dude, pls don't get me wrong, but if its not raining, icy dude I ride. Ihad a 2000 sporty by the end of the first year I had over 12000 miles!! I sold it in 2005 with 37500 miles with the org batt and clutch. The bike is new (1125R) it shouldn't have ANY freaken batt probs!!! But a lot of threads say they are, so what's the prob??? Batt's, stators, v-reg, paracitic volt loss, crappy electronics, come on, not riding isn't my prob here!!

I try to keep the rpm above 3000 at all times. Which keeps it charged up nice. After the reflash it runs so good below 3000 I caught myself riding at 2500 a lot. I think it also has to do with the computer being on all the time.

It doesn't hurt to keep it on a battery tender some also. My '08 FJR needs it too.

Tell you what I had concerns for the charging system in the beginning.

I had mine off the battery tender for a little over a week before the first flash came out.

The Bike would not start dead as a door nail.

After the first flash I still kept it on the battery tender.

Then I had to put all 4 batteries from my RV on the 4 position battery tender.

So I left the 1125R off the battery tender.

I have not put it on the battery tender since the end of April.

Not a problem since with starting. So the since the first reflash was suppose to take care of some early dead battery issues then those of you that are still having issues are hiding them with the tender.

I would have your dealer try and sort out whether your cluster is providing a draw or there is something wrong with your charging system.

Wow, your posts are nearly illegible Timi.
Please don't post like you are texting in ebonics.

To return to the topic, I also have had this occur and have found that riding over 4K for a bit toward the end of a route ensures that there is sufficient battery charge to properly power the theft arming sequence.

Timi,

I'm told that keeping a bike on a trickle charger when not riding is a typical caveat of most motorcycles.
Like you, I refuse to accept this and have thus far not done so.

I have, however, had to jump-start my bike a few times because of the draining problem... Fortunately that appears to have been resolved for me after the first flash.
I did purchase a Battery Tender Jr which fits nicely in the tail section, but I have never used it. I figure that having a charger keeps the battery gremlins away.

Cam, this, so far, has worked. The charger does the job! I'm STILL not happy that I gotta do it. I ride the piss out it. I ride a lot. The bike was bought 9-27 and has 1385 miles as of this time I'm writing. Ill put 20 more when u get off work 2nite. So I gotta live with it, ill get home and put it back on the charger.... So it goes. Thanks to all, I do appreicate this forum and all the enthusists and your support! But I still aren't to happy having to do this. Oh well. Timi.

Timi, try keeping the bike at or above 4,000 RPMs for the last few minutes of your riding. Should help top off the battery.

I did finally put mine on the tender yesterday while I was messing with my new luggage because I noticed that the theft ask didn't work when I shut it off. Took about 30 minutes to top off and afterward the theft ask was working once again.

It's pretty lame to have this feature not work at all when the battery is a bit low. I would like a configurable timeout and/or force the timeout to be like 30 seconds when the battery is low. 4 minutes is way too long anyway.

I'm approaching 14,000 miles on mine. Bought it Jan 15th and it's been in the shop for a total of 4.5 months (1.5 months for various service durations and 3 months for crash repair).

A battery tender on a bike ridden daily m/b a Buell thing or perhaps a modern bike thing, 'cause my two mid-Eighties Hondas haven't needed charging, recharging, battery replacement, water top-up, nothin', when ridden daily or otherwise, over a 3-year period.

(Funny, peculiar, that the spell checker flags "Hondas"; let's see what it thinks of "Buells"). Hmm, it likes "Buells", I sense discrimination against other brands on this Board!

Timi...
The re-flash takes a while at the dealer. They do (but should not do it) without charging the battery afterward.

During the reflash, the ignition is on as are the lights. Without a charger support, this will take a toll on the batteries.

You get the bike back w/o a good charge on the battery and a marginally charged battery causes a lot of issues.

My advice, charge it and you will have no further troubles.

I have 12Kon mine and only have had a charger on it after I got it back form the two re-flashes.

Just ride and repeat, after that.

Heated hand grips, heated gear (widder), day night, I have not had a drained battery since they replaced my ignition switch last winter on the 1125R. I have four bikes to ride, all Buells and none of them get dead batteries.

If ever I get a low battery it's usually battery connections or something simple. The Uly terminals seem to be the most prone to loose connections, so I check it more often.

The ignition switch was another matter though. It was shorting internally.
