My 09 is due to ship from USA to me here in Melbourne -- today. Cool. Or "cuell". Anyway, my dealer, Harley City, told me when I made my purchase 2 months ago that the delay in the build date was due to Buell changing over from importing the frames (Europe I believe?) to making them themselves, and that there had been some difficulties during the changeover. I don't believe I'm spreading a rumour, because this is actually what my dealer told me. Anyone shed any light on this?

No change over. The 1125r frames are from a new provider in the States. The XB frames continue to be sourced from Italy.

The 1125 frames have been made in the U.S. since the start, however, they still use an outside vendor. The frames are not made "in house".

Your dealer was blowing smoke. There could have been delays due to frame supply, but it wasn't because they were changing suppliers or manufacturers.

Maybe - Maybe not. Tough to know what they were told. At least they responded to you.

Thanks for clearing that up. That Buell has changed suppliers of the frames, whether that's in-house/out-house, US or Euro, doesn't negate what the dealer told me (that the changeover process had slowed deliveries of the 09s). I'm an industrial designer and know even the simplest re-sourcing of a component can cause delays; much less something so complex as the 1125 frame. Thanks again.

Also, when they started building the 1125 frames here, they changed the process to a vacuum casting method.
The 1125 frame holds more fuel and weighs significantly less than the XB frame.

Frame trivia...

Buell has not changed. They have added. Verlicchi is making more frames than ever.

Buell, a bit over two years ago, added a new process and some new partners who are involved in the 1125R/CR frames.

Smoothing out the supply and synching it with production could well be the cause of a delay.
