Ok first off. I don't ever remember hearing any noise from my fork before. But now when I hold the front brake and push down on the handle bars I hear a very light and dull thunk coming from them. I guess I can ask about it the next time I service the bike, but I am curious if anyone has any other ideas on what I can check?

Next issue... the other day I was going down I-44 to Rolla, MO and traffic came to a stop for quite a while as they are doing road construction on a new bridge for our lane of traffic. Well after a bit I decided to cut the engine off and coast as we were going down a big hill and the bike was just hot and I didn't want to kill my battery under 3k, waste the fuel and sit there with the D&D blazing for half an hour. Eventually we started to move a bit better from a dead stop to coast then brake, coast and brake. All the while the bike was in neutral, I would let off the brake and coast downhill. I was using my rear brake a lot and I noticed an almost bubbling sound coming from the rear caliper, as if brake fluid where bubbling out. I looked down and saw no fluid, no odditys... but for some reason, every time I applied the rear brake it would make this noise, I even thought maybe it might be something stuck in the caliper but no...very odd sound like blowing through a straw into a cup of water. Any ideas on this? It works fine, I lost no breaking power just the noise...

Thanks!

First off the clunk is most likely the steering head needs to be re-torqued. Many have had this problem and is probably just a normal part of bearings wearing in. See the thread below along with instructions on how to re-torque the steering head. Or just take into the dealer.

As for the braking noise, I hear noises when braking to. I believe it's the sound of the pads on the rotors. Although the sound I hear is more of a buzzing or hissing.

Thanks for the help Spectrum. That sounds identical to the clunking I am hearing. As for the rear brakes... Still not sure, I can not replicate it. Both front and rear make a little noise and always have but Friday afternoon was a different sort of noise I hadn't heard yet... like blowing through a straw into a cup. Bubbling.

FYI- from the owners manual:
"Do not coast for long distances with the engine off or idling. The transmission is properly lubricated only when the engine is running. Coasting long distances can result in transmission damage."

Also if you want to drop your coolant temp by about 20 degrees F. next time you bring your bike in have them do a coolant flush with Engine Ice. I just did this on a friends 1125R and he told me it dropped the temp about 20-30F sitting in traffic.

I seriously feel like an idiot now. lol I should have known better. It was only down a couple of hills and going up the next I had to start it and drive up, I just figured hey... why waste the fuel and sit here and let the bike drone not charging the battery and such, heat, etc. I wonder what constitutes as a long distance?

I'll look into the engine ice, although the heat wasn't an issue really it was at 190 degrees the whole time, I was getting hot wearing full gear, helmet, jacket, pants, gloves and a frown.

After 2000 miles, I haven't had the forks touched, but I will certainly have 'em check it when I take it up next time.

The braking noise you hear is from the holes in the disc.
First time I ever heard that sound was on my Shovelhead.
Drilled, dual disc front, oddest bubbling sound I had ever heard.

I think you can fix it by beveling the holes.

Hmm I never thought of that, and that is why the first image that popped into my head was bubbling break fluid spewing out onto my powder coated swing arm, the road, my tires, stripping away paint and murdering everything it sludged onto... then I look down and what do I see....nothing. I'll keep that in mind, if it's just the vent holes I won't mess with it. Thanks for the help!
