along with getting my bike reflashed last weekend, i also had a new cluster installed(one that wasnt completely fogged out).

when i start the bike cold, the CT/AT screen is displayed. once 'cold' stops flashing, and my coolant temp has passed 151, the screen switches to average MPG... EVERY DAMN TIME!!!

i dont care about my avg MPG!!! how do i make it stay in the CT/AT screen?? i turn it off in that screen, it starts with that screen every time i key on... but i doesnt stay there!!!

ARRGH!!!

That's the way mine has been since new. Push the button twice and you're back to temps. What's the issue?

Readout should stick with the last one the user chose. I agree that would be annoying...

Mine never has and never gave it any thought. Since the newness of the reflash has worn off, I rarely bother to scroll back to temps unless I'm in stop and go and it's hot out to see if she'll hit 200 degrees. Hasn't happened yet.

Read your owners manual. I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to function.

What do you need to know the temp for? If it's not too cold, and it's not too hot, why the need?

Yea mine did the same after the first re flash, i agree with you id rather see the blinking temp then COLD so i can tell how much longer i have till its warmed up, and i also hate how it defaults back to avg MPG every startup, the old way was better. it kept the last setting and also showed CT temp even when cold and would just blink till its warm. why they thought all that had to be changed is beyond me.

Some computer geek at BMC thought (thinks) he knows best, so he programmed it that way without consulting anyone who rides...that's what happens at my company anyway (different biz, but same analogy.) Or someone jus plain f'ked up!

Blinking COLD sucks. I would much rather have a temperature count up so I can see where it is in the process and adjust my pre-ride routine speed. I hate getting all geared up then seeing that the bike is still at 120 degrees. The only time my bike has ever been ridden under 150 degrees is by the dealer (assumption.)

The flash hasn't changed that about mine- it still blinks the temp, and when it's warmed-up it goes back to whichever it was on before.

Interesting, maybe the Flash didn't do that b/c when i got my back after 1st reflash it was a new gauge cluster aswell due to an accident i had in June. so maybe its just the new clusters that do that.

well how dumb of a system is that??? thanks for the good answer, fresnobuell.

i am sure i speak for more than just myself when i say that we dont really care what the computer thinks our average MPG is. its a cute tidbit of info, but largely unnecessary. ill calculate it by hand at every fill-up if i care to know. miles driven divided by gallons used tends to be more accurate than the computer.

if im going to look at the instrument cluster, i prefer reading some real time data... the air temp and coolant temp are much more important to me than MPG.

i have an april 08 build date for my bike with the 1st reflash loaded, and from day one, it always stayed where i left it, to clear it up a bit. switching from MPG to CT/AT screen is going to get old VERY quick.

Pizzaboy, you answered a question of mine that I had a while ago. Before I had my cluster replaced the cluster would display whatever you had it on when shut off. Now with my new cluster it always goes back to avg econ when turned on. It also displays cold now and always had a temp reading while warming up before. It does suck but is "normal" for the newer cluster.

If you read your manual it states that at next key up it will display what it was on at shut off. Not anymore!

Chevy and Pizza, you guys got the new cluster with the gear indicator on it? I read that the CR cluster does some things differently than the R cluster. I am a little confused. I am really hoping that the new flash doesn't change the way my cluster functions.

No difference that I've noticed, Harlan.
Got no gear indicator. : (
Everything is as it was, Loretta's still at default AFV after the flash but very rideable now.

Saw my head pipes glow this evening. Neat.

Fresnobuell, I had a cluster problem a while ago, it would kill the battery sometimes. I got it replaced under warranty and no more battery problems but it works differently than the original one. It has no gear indicator. It just always starts out at avg econ when started. I really don't care about fuel economy that much and would rather see coolant temp. I have to switch it to coolant temp at every start up and eventually that little button is going to wear out from pushing it. But at least the battery doesn't go dead anymore!

As for the flash effecting the cluster, no, I don't think that anything in the cluster is flashable even if you wanted to change it. They come set up and just learn the vin and the miles during the first 30 min of key on.

I am picking up my bike tomorrow sometime. I am nervous as this is the first flash for me. I will hate myself if it is worse off than before. My bike was running GREAT before. I guess it's the old saying "don't fix it if it ain't broke." The glowing reviews pushed me over the edge.

I hope to be posting my own glowing review about this time tomorrow night!

I was thinking about this the other day and realized something.

If this is one of the last gripes people have, this must be one helluva good motorcycle.

Cluster performs the same after the flash. Good.
