My FJR has sliders that replace an engine mount bolt. These sliders stick out enough to protect a lot.

The Dark Horse sliders I ordered for my 1125 will be delivered today. I'm sure that they are good. But I don't see how they can protect the clutch cover.

The 1125 has an engine bolt in nearly the same spot as the FJR. I'm half tempted to try bolting (with an appropriate threaded bolt) the FJR sliders on the 1125.

Does anyone sell a similar slider to what I want?

BTW if you stand at the front of the 1125 and look at the profile, do you really think that pod will protect that clutch cover?

Well, I finally got some extra cash and pulled the trigger on a set of Kieth's finest.

Once Loretta gets home from the shop with a new cam, she gets shiny Aluminum sliders front and rear and a Kick-Ash windscreen.

Doesn't the clutch cover come with a slider from the factory?

The new improved slider on the rev.b clutch cover which comes stock on the CR should keep the cover itself from being ground down.

The stator side unless it is a very very mild low side on the left will probably always grind or cave in that side. Unless they redesign that one as well.

Does anyone have pics of these sliders for the 1125r? I would sure like to see them.

I find it odd in todays market, that Buell does not sell these damn streetbikes with the sliders built on. I remember for years buying and leasing Ford, Chevy or Dodge pick-up trucks. They don't come with a bedliners or rail protectors, but it is used to haul stuff. Seems as if these bikes should have frame sliders, since we don't have three or more wheels.

Maybe I'm just asking for too much, but in the damn design, they could incorporate adequate sliders into the manufacturing.

WTF!?

When your frame is also a fuel tank, there are some safety considerations in welding protectors on that could shear off part of the frame and lead to gas spilling out.

Buell makes frame pucks for the XBs and for the 1125R the side pods do a pretty good job of limiting damage. In conjunction with Dark Horse Moto sliders and the pucks on the ignition and clutch covers, you're covered for low speed mishaps...

Anyhow, the outer clutch cover can be had for around $150... not crazy expensive. With the new puck, you'll only have to replace the puck (<$20?) in most cases.

318 for the new cover is correct. I ordered mine from Chicago HD on the internet and the total with shipping came out to 269 and some change (they have a great discount). Unfortunately, the covers are on back order right now until 1 OCT which is an extension of a previous backorder of 19 SEP. I ordered it on 3 SEP and am still waiting for Buell to ship to the dealer.

I am curious about Zac's cam comment... Is there an aftermarket cam available for the 1125R to increase power? I want it! If not I hope there is one soon! PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Zac's cam had some pitting that was found during a valve clearance inspection. The new cam is stock.

Josh, my mistake... Mike is right... you can get it for about $250 via Chicago H-D on-line (part no. R1029A.1AM). It is the "DIAPHRAGM RING (CLUTCH CVR) ASSY W/PLUG". Yeah, I got my hopes up to!

Mike,

Thanks for passing on that the new clutch cover is on back order. I'm waiting on one to have my leaky cover replaced under warranty.

I assumed I'd get the new flash done at the same time I took it in for the clutch cover.

Now that I know it's on back order, if they don't start shipping Oct 1, I'm going to go ahead and get the flash done.

No sense missing out on enjoying the new calibration if it's going be be several more weeks.

Keep us posted when the new cover finally arrives.

I was planning to do my maintenance, get the re-flash, new clutch cover replaced, and the warranty work at the same time too. This will be the 4th time I have had the seals replaced on my clutch. Hopefully, the updated clutch cover will do the trick. I am going to get the re-flash done soon, though since there is no telling when this cover will come out of backorder status.

I can attest to the '09 design for the clutch "pucks".

I slid down the highway last weekend, and between dark horse moto bar ends and sliders, my 1125r only had rash on the sliders, clutch puck, bar ends and pods!

I picked the bike back up and rode it not only 2 more hours on the slap after the crash, but for two whole days in Arkansas!

The Buell clutch puck to pops on and off and they are cheap -- like pod plastic. so, a basic low side crash on an 1125r shouldn't be too expensive of a get off as a general rule. I think mine will set me back about $150 - $200 to replace EVERYTHING that touched.

(I just buffed out the sliders on my aluminum polishing wheel -- can't tell they were ever crashed, they look new now.)

I'm probably going to spend a little more and get the '09 heat shield (black) and some other parts to make the bike look cooler... but the point is, man, these things crash much more cheaply than a full fairing bike!

As for the '09 clutch assembly... it sure seems to be a lot better.

I still have the original clutch cover. I had a low side a couple months ago and I think that my jeans lasted longer than the clutch "puck". I am glad to hear that the new cover and puck are more durable. Thanks for the info.

Jim, thanks for the crash test!

Good to hear that the clutch cover was intact... the original clutch cover plastic ring would not have been adequate.

The 09 pucks are power coated aluminum. Not only did it last and work great in my crash, it polished up nicely on the buff wheel. Now I have a bright shiny silver clutch puck!

I garage dropped my bike when I had the 08 cover, and yea, it got mashed and didn't do a very good job at all. The 09 works. The 08 is not so great.

My cover showed up on the doorstep yesterday night (friday 26th). I got it installed this morning along with the re-flash. Hopefully this will fix the leak for good.
