Hey, I've had a similar question to Fresnobuell. After the reflash mine's running at 94.5 front / 100 rear. Is this normal? I'm at around 5000 feet. It was reset to 100/100 at the time of the reflash and was running beautifully; lately I've noticed a little bit more surging/stumbling in the 3k-5k range. It might just be my imagination, but you never know.

Any thoughts?

I have about 50-60 miles since the flash and I am going to give it some more time before I draw conclusions. BUT I have noticed some stumbling around 4K and there seems to be a power delay (for lack of a better term--possibly coming from a stumble) when going hard on the throttle in first and second gears. Let's see if it sorts itself out.

Fresno, I noticed a slight surging at 4K right after the flash - nothing like what I had at 3500 before the flash, but noticeable. AFV's before the flash were 100F/105R, but were set at 100/100 with the flash. I made a point of cruising in the 4K range, with the throttle lock engaged to minimize inputs. By the second tank of gas, the surging had gone away, and the AFV's had reset to 100F/105R - which appears to be the normal setting for my bike since the solenoid removal.

Other than that, _everything_ is better since the flash. I would never have thought a remap could change a bike so fundamentally. Power up, throttle response improved, running temps down, and fuel mileage up. Amazing.

The AFV is a percentage. If the number is 99.5, it has adjusted the map 0.5% leaner (very small adjustment).

If the number is 94.5, it has adjusted the map 5.5% leaner (moderate adjustment)

If the number is 105, it has adjusted the map 5% richer, and so forth.

Again, with the baro sensor many of us feel that altitude does not play in to the AFV's like the earlier models.

I hope you are right. That is why I am reserving my conclusions for a while. Maybe there is a learning period for my bike, after all it got a whole new brain.

The AFV for the front went from 85 yesterday afternoon to 81 last night to 89.5 this morning. Is the high fluctuation of the AFV normal?

The rear seems to be consistently around 95.

Fresnobuell, that much of a change in the AFV does seem abnormal to me. A few months ago I had disconnected my fuel pressure sensor and ran the bike for 2 days that way. With the pressure sensor disconnected the ecm runs the fuel pump at full pressure. My AFV went to 80 front and rear with max fuel pressure. Just think that 81 AFV seems odd to me. Leaking injector?

Fresno and Chevy, after getting my flash I had a learning ride home; 50 miles of freeway with changing speeds. Then last weekend I ran it pretty hard in the canyons here seeing all different rpm's sometimes to redline and my bike is running the best it ever has. Yet to check AFV's but I have come to disregard them anyways. Just maybe all you guys need is a more extensive learning curve in all conditions. Stock, solenoid unhooked and throttle locked. Just my $.02 worth. Bob

Yes, I would think that no detonation in one cylinder would be obvious. I have no obvious problems. Am I correct in this assumption?

I had front O2 errors for a while before the flash, but they never seemed to affect anything. COuld it be a bad O2 sensor, maybe?

Fresno, I agree that such wide swings are probably not normal. I know that I have never seen them on my bike. It could very well be a bad O2 sensor, or a leaking injector, or a high fuel pressure at the rail. Since you have had O2 error codes in the past, I would suspect that first.

hmmm, my bike was giving me as low as 77 for the front and fluctuating to 101 over the course of 40 miles. I also got the frt O2 sensor error code intermittently. I did notice the bike had a drop in power, along with a pressurized fuel tank...needless to say, it is in the shop as they try to figure what's up.

btw, this is post flash. the temps are lower and the stumble is gone.

Sounds like the O2 sensor may be fried, or there is an intermittent open or short in the circuit.

One thing nobody has really brought up but I have wondered - what kind of residual damage has all the heat and lean running caused to these engines over time from running the "less than optimal" early configurations? Especially where the guys have put a good amount of miles on them..couldn't be too good for longevity I would think.

I would check into the O2 sensor thing. I had to have my rear O2 sensor replaced a while ago. Was setting a code. After it was replaced all seems well.

Anything over or under 10% should be checked out...

THIS ASSUMING a stock bike at or near sea level.

Highly modded 11's @ sea level ~ 1000' + elevation in secret haven't mustered over 15% +/- deviation.

So much for that secret!

77 AFV on Front cylinder and an O2 error code on Front cylinder @ 500'?!

How could anything over or under 15% deviation, on a stock fuel map & stock application (near sea level) be considered normal?

It is not, IMO.

Have it checked out. mm

Up to 95 on the problematic front cyl. this afternoon (yea, seems normal!.) Down to 89.5 this evening. The rear hasn't move from the 94.5 once.

From a non-mechanic type, these large movements seem odd.

What is the process used to test an O2 sensor? Anyone?

THe front O2 is easy to replace, probably the easiest route vs trying to test it.

I've never seen an AFV fluctuate so much that rapidly. Check the O2 connector and make sure it is seated properly. if that's ok, I would just put a new one on and see if that takes care of it. They aren't that expensive.

Josh(Jmr1283), I know the Catalyst lower does as I have one on my own bike just like the one on Glendale HD/Buell where I got it. I still had to cut a bout 1/4" by about 10" for the stand to work with my custom installation on a stock upper. See picture below. If a person wanted to, I believe you could cut any fairing lower to allow the use of the side stand.

to run the wide band o2's do u need a different ecm to run them. or can the stock ecm support them. parden my ignorance, this all is new for about 3 weeks to me.
