I took my bike in today to get the new flash. On my way I noticed the gauge cluster was foggy! Also, I got the right rear turn signal out. No big deal it's all on warranty.

May question is when they put the new gauge cluster on how do they keep the odometer memory /is it in the bike computer or in the cluster itself?

jut a curiosity.......

Pretty sure it's in the ECM.

The vin# and the mileage are stored in the ecm and the cluster. The new module learns the vin from the old one. The cluster will learn from the ecm in your case. The learn process takes 30 min with the key left on.

If I have cluster issues, I want the 09 with the gear indicator.

Yeah - the ECM does a little math between the tach and speedo and spits out a number.

Does the 0505 flash give the old ICs the gear indicator?
The one on the CR I rode was laid out a little different than mine, a Nov07 build.

Zac, I don't think so...it seems like the CR cluster is a bit larger, probably making space for the gear indicator...

How did you get an 09 cluster? Because in my case not only does it need a flash. The theft stopped working and the low fuel lights coming on way too soon. So it needs to be serviced under warranty anyways.

A little off topic, but in the Diag. Mode there are "voltages" (i.e. the Coolant voltage was 1.9 when I checked it last) for various items. Can someone tell me what exactly this is telling me?

Thanks.

It's the actual voltage the sensor is sending the ECM.
These send a level, not just a binary signal like some old sensors.
Temp sensors, baro & MAP, O2, TPS, Fuel Press etc.

The voltages will point out a bad sensor if it's out of range.

thanks Zac. You are a great source (even better now that you are on the "inside").

I suspect the Service Manual has the acceptable ranges for the sensors.
